Cubs/Pirates great matchup tonight. Too bad the Pens/Caps is on at the same time!
So far both Cole and Hammels have been hit hard but so far only McCutchen hit a HR.

The best fans in MLB baseball…LOL
> are great when they are a front runner
> love black people when they play good for the home team
> will slap a brother a high five leaving a liquor store in Ferguson after a cardinal win…pre-riot of course
> most women in St. Louis are not very attractive, unless of course you hit the liquor store in Ferguson first.

Feel free to add to the list…GO CUBS GO!

Cards aren't done but they really need to get the pitching figured out. It's a team built around pitching and against the contenders the pitching is getting beat up.

Seriously, though, the media can go fuck itself trying to incite another racial issue.

It's funny that Cubs fans show up out of nowhere and call Cardinals fans frontrunners

You are an embarrassment to being a real fan scouty. but, hey you are part of the best fans in the mlb!
LOL...because I am fan who can see the good and bad of my team? It's weakness and strengths vs the rest of the league?

Oh no, what will I do if some Scrub loser calls me out for her perception of not being a real fan?! Oh whoa is me...

There goes my life time achievement award for being a "real fan"...cough cough...blind homer

Seriously, and I have just noticed this over the last 30 years, Cubs fans have shown up at the ballpark with a great deal of frequency despite going 70 years without a NL pennant. That might not suggest a "best fans in baseball" claim. I can also remember the 1970s, when if they were lucky, 1,300 fans would show up.

The problem with Cubs fans is that they turned the fan base over to a bunch of suburbanites who can sing 'go Cubs go' because the words are fairly simple.

Me? I follow the Reds and being a fan of that team will indeed be a challenge for the foreseeable future.

I've met a decent number of pretty knowledgeable Cubs fans over the years. I think its obvious that they have a fair number of solid, dedicated fans but when they start winning the fans are everywhere and when they go back into a funk its just the dedicated fans.

Cubs represent the affluent part of Chicago generally. Cardinals represent the entire STL area and STL is much smaller than Chicago. They are two fairly different fanbases. Cards fanbase probably has more in common with the Reds fanbase than the Pirates (football town first, hockey town probably a very close 2nd) and the certainly the Cubs. Not that the Reds and Cardinals particularly like each other at the moment but thats divisional rivalries for you.

I don't intend to claim that there aren't knowledgeable fans. The rank and file fans you meet at the grocery are as adroit about the game as are people from Greenland. Most of them will ask if the Cubs won, what was the score, and who did they play? There are a lot fewer White Sox fans so they are less likely to be boorish about it.

I don't profess to be able to evaluate fan knowledge beyond that point. Snarky fans annoy us all, and my ex-girlfriend's son-in-law was the worst ... he was a White Sox fan who would simply turn every comment into a "1908" conversation that really bore on me.

I live near Chicago so I get a fair amount of sample size on the Chicago sports teams. There are lots of them for all sports so there are plenty of people who qualify as human bobbleheads for the various teams.

Sad part of being a Reds fan is that we are reduced by necessity to discuss teams that excelled 40 years ago. It would be nice if we had something else to work with, but the 2016 version is a rerun of the Titanic, except the Titanic at least left port.

at this rate, Reds will give up 956 runs this year. Enjoy those historically high batting averages, fans.

The Cubs have outscored their opponents by 89 runs. The Royals, Rays, Yankees, Phillies and Barves have scored fewer than 89 total runs.

Most teams would be happy to finish the season with a +89 run differential. It's May 4th.

All data aside, it's not important how many games you win if you don't win the last one.
