After many seasons of of mediocre QB play it feels weird to have a rookie who looks to be a good backup (with improvement maybe even a starter) but even more importantly to have hope we can have an above average starting QB, in Garopolo(SP), for the foreseeable future.

And to reiterate the running QB we had, had the flaw most running QBs have, Wilson is an escape artist to setup pass not a running QB, when Running QBs at the high school and College level have the ability to make yardage that opens up passing, as we saw with k(r)ap, they don't learn the patience to read and go through their progressions for finding the open man. The vast majority will never get "It" as QBs.

The O-line still isn't where it needs to be, but you can see the glaring differences between Garoppolo and Beathard back there. JG's got a quick, compact throw and looks to get rid of the ball. He delivers the ball with some accuracy, and attempts throws that the other guys on this team this season wouldn't even think of. His footwork on his drop backs are also top notch. Based on those traits alone, there is little to dislike about this guy.

Unless he completely falls apart for whatever reason or is doomed by injuries, this is the QB.

I agree. I'm cautiously optimistic. He looked GOOD out there. Despite having some of the worst skill position players in the league, he looked good. Maybe we'll catch a break.

He looks polished. he did throw one or two up for grabs off his back foot but got fortunate. He looks like he could be the real deal if the 49ers can get some help around him.
I thought the O Line did a good job of protecting him as well.

Jimmy G makes the oline look better too. He processes things quickly and gets rid of the ball. The best I've seen on this team in a long time. He also seems to have good pocket awareness and moves to escape pressure. Beathard is a warrior but at right now he doesn't have that awareness and holds onto the ball too long.

Agreed. It looked systematic out there on Sunday for the first time in a long time.

Houston is 10th against the run and 22nd against the pass. Better than the Bears I think. I think Houston has a better dline too so our oline needs to step it up this week
