So...it's basically just nerdifying the "eye test".

I think people who watch hockey enough know the difference between a soft, floating 60 point Euro and a 60 point "200 foot player". Hockey really doesn't need numbers like this.

Just because you have no clue how to use something like zone starts, doesn't mean they aren't useful. And really, their use doesn't have much to do with the eye test or the example you cite...
