So, I listened to the team doc, and apparently the Sid situation was complicated because he actually injured his salivary gland in a game vs. Carolina (had it grabbed/aggravated), and they apparently HAD tested blood previously, and it took some special test being sent to the CDC for them to diagnose him. Which seems pretty insane. Who knows.

Not just a special one of a kind injury, but he got it by being fouled.

Clearly the doctor has worked for the Pens for a while.

When I first read this I was thinking they used the cannon to bomb the entire visiting dressing room for good

They should have fired it off while the Pens were in there. :suds:

Total is up to 15, and will certainly go up. No way this is the end of cases for the Pens.

Off the wall question here; the water bottles on the benches (and nets) and the gatorade coolers... do the teams bring that with them or are they provided by the arena/home team?

Anyone have any idea? Just kind of weird how it's spreading. Jumping from team to team, etc.

I know the trainers are writing players' names on them now, so maybe they're brought by the team?

They likely bring their own bottles since most guys probably have specific wants or the like. The spread is more likely because it's a contact sport. It doesn't take a sneeze on someone's face for this to happen. Sweat, moisture in breathing, etc. Their equipment gets saturated, and it spreads from that. Something along those lines. Where's 46.2? This is his thing, right? Diseases and stuff? What would be interesting would be a timeline with players who've contracted it and whom they have played, etc. My guess is Sid got it from the Rangers (Glass had it awhile back), and ironically probably gave it right back to them (Brassard out now). The thing is, what does the league do? If this gets too much bigger, do they consider a shutdown for like 10 days to just quarantine guys, wait for symptoms, etc? Do they have everyone send blood samples to see who is in the incubation period? Is that even a possible? Because of that incubation period I don't see this simply going away, no matter who has been vaccinated. You have to wonder about the vaccine. That's the worrisome part of this all from the science side of things. There are 3 guys who have contracted a disease for which they received MMR as kids AND received a booster less than a year ago (Perry, Suter, Crosby). That's not a good thing right there.

Islanders did as well. The UPMC docs have spoken about the incident with the Pens stating that the kids they visited (Beau at least) weren't immune-compromised and that he didn't feel that they were contagious at their time of visit. So that's good. I can't imagine what would happen if a sick kid contracted it.

Greiss, Sutter, and Downie all sent back to Pittsburgh to be tested. Greiss being tested for the second time now. There's a stat called man games lost, now we need man games lost to mumps. PENS R #1!!!!

Wouldn't be surprised if a Panthers player gets it, considering the amount of hugs and love Downie spread on Saturday.

Sabres are (so far) mumps free, but "flu-like symptoms" are taking people out of that locker room left and right.
