But the rules had to be different right? Net were maybe twice as large? Goalies weren't allowed? Played 4 quarters instead of 3 periods.
Hard to believe it but Smith actually has been a bit of a savior for this team. Only allowed more than 2 goals once in 4 games assuming the Flames don’t pummel him next period.Flames certainly had the edge in play after the Oil opened the scoring, but good Mike Smith decided to show up tonight.
Bleh
Is this going to be one of those backup goalie shuts us down games?
Exactly, if they had the same goalies and defense back then that we do now, he would not have scored the raw numbers he did, but he would still be light years ahead of everyone else. Like the gap between McDavid and the average player now was about the same as the gap between Gretz and other stars (except Lemieux) back then.the most impressive thing wasn't the raw numbers, but the amount by which he would beat the next closest guy in the scoring race.
They were all playing against the same defense and goalies, but Gretz would win the scoring race by 65 points.
The year he got 212 points, he led the league in goals by 28, and led the league in assists by 27
In hockey pools, you needed to split his goals and assists, and assists was always the first pick over all.
but goalies were a bit smaller.
