As someone who the South of the US and only 35, I never really watch The Great One, but his stats appear to be unbelievable. They just don't make any sense.

he really was utterly ridiculous at his prime.

But the rules had to be different right? Net were maybe twice as large? Goalies weren't allowed? Played 4 quarters instead of 3 periods.

Rules were the same, but two big differences:

1. Goalies were terrible (especially during the 80s)
2. Defensemen couldn't skate and by default defend like they can now.

I've often wondered what someone with Ovi's speed, build, and skill would do to hockey players in the 70's and 80s.
