Maybe your bunch of punks can return the favour dash? Have a word with them if you don't mind. Maybe T. Harding Mr. Engelland for me?

Actually, Deryk played his best game of the season against the Flyers on Tuesday night. But yeah, back-to-back games against Boston and Detroit, yikes I hope they can win one of the two.

I'll just drop this here - Poor quality, but a nice goal by Sam Bennett earlier tonight.

I shouldn't complain because of my stance on the state of penalties in the league...but the call in the Pens-Avs game just now was a laugher. They NEVER call interference, but when getting back on his feet, Pouliot was run into by Duchene. Somehow this was interference.

Ducks have had 3 power plays in their last 4 games combined and two of those were a too many men and a puck over glass delay of game.

Pix, what were you saying about refs not calling penalties anymore?

This, however, is not deemed interference.

It's true!

Pens have one powerplay through two and a half periods tonight. This game has been tough to watch, much like this whole hockey season. Feels like I'm watching hockey of 20 years ago. Brodeur is somewhere skating to the corner to clear the puck as Neidermeyer is hooking the forchecker from behind.

Hah, did you not see my big post about it? Because it's a thing. A BIG thing. I couldn't delve into the specific penalties called, but I know the Pens last game against CBJ it was a lot of similar stuff. Penalties called, but things they HAVE to call, not judgement ones.

Feel free to see my vine. And that's merely one small example, the most egregious of the night, but not the only. Next step is to find the penalty they called on Pouliot.

The Winnipeg Jets got away with a TONNE of things tonight against Ottawa. I feel like they have judged the refs tendencies quickly.

I remember the Cup winning Ducks team of 2007. They pretty much admitted that they committed as many penalties as they could because only about 25% of them ever got called. Go back to the 1998-2004 period and that percentage dropped. Sadly I think we're seeing some slippage towards that type of hockey again.

Is Derian Hatcher technically a free agent???

I hate officiating in the NHL of late. Really don't understand their rationale for allowing clutch and grab, interference-fest hockey be the predominant style again. It ruined the league, and drove away viewers and ticket sales before. The ratings this year on NBCNet have not been very good compared to recent ones. May be a byproduct of it.

My argument is that it's not "some" it's "a LOT". And man, even the 2008 Red Wings were the champs at interference. Never called. But, in the playoffs that stuff just seems to fly a lot more. Seeing this much of it ignored in the regular season is unnerving. As my longwinded post discussed, the PP opp/game rate is UGLY this year. It's actually worse now than it was during the peak of deadpuck. Players aren't dumb, they can pick up what is and isn't going to be called fairly quickly, and when PP opp/game is down, it pretty much is going to guarantee you there's simply more being ignored. It's not a case of the league magically being clean or pretty now, so the penalties don't exist.

Andrew 'Hamburglar' Hammond got smoked by Lowry of the Jets last night (no Sens player pushed him into the crease, he just skated through and nailed him in the head. No call from either zebra.

Lowry is a prick. He's a mammoth of a guy, knows it, and abuses it. And you know things are getting bad when the refs aren't even taking out the whistle to protect the goalies.
