I didn't say that it was the only stat... i gave 3 stats... but that is also just my starting... but i like plus/minus especially for defense as helping the goalie prevent opponents scoring is their biggest job...

But an average defenseman with a great goalie is likely to have a better +/- than a great defender with an average goalie.

there is more to it than simply helping the goalie prevent scores, its keeping players out of the goalies line of site, backchecking and taking a player out of the play or getng the puck away from the player, it's clearing the puck when given the oportunity, it's having vision to make good passes out of the zone. It's not as simple as you think it is.

I have said, i don't watch... i can only base it on stats... I do play deck hockey in an adult league... I know deck hockey is nothing like real hockey... but i do appreciate the importance of good defenseman, and the importance of clearing the puck accurately and efficiently...

What is deck hockey?

Is it like broom ball?

Floor hockey?

remember when you were a kid and played floor hockey... it is that in a rink... so basically roller/ice hockey in sneakers...

its for those of us who can't skate...

They have leagues for that? Do you wear pads? Do you play with a real puck?

if you like hockey, and don't want to hurt yourself skating/or can't skate... it is a great time... 2 16 minute halves... 5 on 5...

Pads and helmets... But we use a ball...

I'm seriously thinking about joining a hockey league they have for oldtimers down here. Been a long time since I played competitively but i'm thinking it would be a freakin blast if my knees hold up.

if there are leagues around, then do it... been playing for the past 5 years... 10 week seasons+ playoffs... new seasons start right after playoffs end.... so you get 4 seasons per year...

I've never played organized hockey. (Closest place was prolly 45 minutes away when I was growing up.)But played pickup pond hockey all the time. And sometimes roller hockey.

I went to high school with this kid that was crazy obese, super awkward and uncoordinated. Hell of a hockey player though, once he strapped on skates it was like a completely different person, crazy finesse with a puck, he killed it as a center. One of the craziest things I ever saw.
