The NFL is not Americas sport because it's better than NBA or MLB as far as the game is concerned. NO, NFL is so popular because it gives Americans the things they love the most, namely violence and drama. NFL has perfected drama in a way that Shakespeare would be envious of. Cutler-McGowan and RG3-Cousins are todays play and with whatever happens this weekend will shape the conversation and give us all our drama fix for weeks to come.

I agree, but the big plays like takeaways, touchdowns, long passes and breakout runs contribute to the NFL popularity as well, IMO. Also, having just 16 games make every game even more important than the other sports. Although I suppose those that I mentioned things that I mentioned fall under the category of drama, which you mentioned.

It's America's sport because it's on once a week, there's only 16 games and there is only somehing like 11 mins of total action so the casual fans have plenty of time to see replays, graphics and the announcers can dumb it down for everyone to understand. It's perfect for the ADD nation we have become.

I require far more help getting through Shakespeare than I do an NFL game.
