Maiocco:

49ers DB coach Ed Donatell was chatting with ex-LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu between drills. Mathieu smiled and gave Donatell pat on his back.

I wouldn't draft Mathieu - his character/make-up just scares me too much for his skill set and physical make-up - but he looks fantastic today. Very good workout about halfway through.

Don't be tempted Eddie - let this punk grow-up on someone elses dime.

Looks like Milliner solidified his spot. I didn't see, did Trufant not run?

Other thoughts: Mathieu might of helped himself a lot today, depending on his interviews (4.43 is faster than advertised). Elam running a 4.4 is faster than I thought he would be.

Oh I'd absolutely take him in the 3rd. Maybe even with the Bengals second 2nd rounder.

A few wasted/garbage steps from Mathieu in the 2nd half of drills after he got off to a pretty good start.

If we get a comp pick in the third, there is no doubt I would look hard at him and Lattimore.

Ugh, Deion. If you're a kid now-a-days and you're playing football for a small school and you don't think you have a chance to get to the NFL then you're really unintelligent and I don't feel one bit sorry for you if you let that get to you.

ESPN CFB analyst and former NFL player Mark May on Te'o:

Any team that wastes a 1st round pick on Manti Teo should fire their GM on draft day

He's a mid to late 2nd at best

Scroll back a page or so for the unofficial times and splits I posted. Oh, wait. I'll just post it again. Thought I didn't have it up still on my computer.

The reason I was asking is because the NFL.com feed was talking 4.37 as his unofficial time, had me confused for a second.

I don't see any way Mathieu is drafted before the 4th or 5th. He is undersized, not an overwhelming athlete, hasn't played in a year and has character issues.

:agree:

I'd draft him though in the 4th. We have too many picks not to find it in us to act aggressive with our approach in the draft. I can see him and Spillman battleling it out to be our best gunners on the squad/NFL. He is a future starter IMO. He's tenacious and also has a nose for the ball (keen sense to make the critical plays). Which is why I think he's worth a 4th round pick for a team that possess a total of 19 draft picks (with Alex Smith trade). I agree with Sick though, a 5th is where he should be drafted, but he won't last that long for us, forcing us to use one of our fourth round picks on him.

They're wrong. Unless they were saying somebody they talked to in the stands had him at 4.37.
