My co-worker is a steelers fan and message me bitching about the refs and conspiracy theory lol.

Didn't want to break it to him that the refs are not at fault. It is more about the league and their rules. Refs are just following it
next time hes whining, ask him if its worse than this 5 minute video....

Haha. Dude, I'm with ya on this one. The lions get fucked more than any other team in the NFL. @Rollingthndr and I have discussed this numerous times

Based on the rule, it's a correct call. The rule is ridiculous....so forget about that for a second.

Any honest, true football fan who has been a fan for a long time prior to said rule being implemented....and who saw that play without knowing the rules inside and out would say the same thing - that was a catch....that was a TD.

In the end....the NFL fans were the ones that were robbed.

Maybe that ruling should only be for catches in the endzone. I dunno, but that one doesn't feel right. Yes he's going down, but clearly lunges from his knees to the endzone.

Maybe you're right tho...he needs to hang on to it, either way. It was pretty unique with regards to the body control tho, and I think they may have to soon re-address what all constitutes a football move. That was quick as hell, but his body control is clearly a turn and a lunge even at that speed.

Those types of plays(like the Dez Bryant one too) seem outside of the rule's original intent to me.
It's so gray that I don't really know what they can do. :noidea: This play, just like the Johnson play can happen anywhere on the field if the player is making the same type of play for the first down marker, right? So there is a consistency issue to overcome. I don't think we find too many who will argue that it's 'the rule' at odds, not either of those two catches discussed with what should and should not be considered a catch.

Maybe, in order to get the rule right (And it's still a judgement by the officials) they should enter a caveat, instead of a 'football move' (So gray) they still require surviving the ground 'except' in instances where there is clear possession and the player 'advances' the ball.

With that type of caveat however, if that play happened on the field of play though, it would be a catch and a fumble, that it happened in the endzone, it would be a touchdown.

A friend of mine and were quite sure that the review would take away the TD and spot the ball on the 1 yard line where his knee hit the ground. We weren't even discussing the possibility of an incomplete pass.

Hey, the Pat's didn't write the rule book.
I would be pissed if I was a Steelers fan, absolutely.
But I'm not so I'm having a great day!

Did you think he was down by contact by the defender?

It's not a question of the rule being wrong, or shitty, or whatever.

It was misapplied, as the receiver wasn't going to the ground to make the catch. He secured the ball with his feet on the ground, THEN turned and dove for the end zone.

It was a TD as soon as the ball crossed the line...no different than if a running back were diving over.

I thought the Dez Bryant play against GB was a catch and I thought today's play was a catch. I was wrong both times

Dez took 2 steps as he was falling after he caught the ball and it isn't clear that the ball ever even touched the ground in his case. I still think that was a bad call and I hate the Boys, fwiw.

James took zero steps as he was falling after he caught it and the ball clearly hit the ground which caused the bobble. I don't think this one was even a close call under the rule and was surprised it took so long for them to overturn it.

It was the right call according to the rule but the rule is an absolute joke and should be removed from the rule book.
