As basically the refs told the Eagles the ball was incomplete, and therefore they did not go for the recovery, this is actually the most honest solution.

this is why the NFL sucks dick. the ref immediately runs over, calls it incomplete, stands over the ball and then picks it up.

In fairness no player went after the ball before the ref touched it.

Yup. Basically because the refs f-ed up the initial call, as they blew the play dead the Eagles did not go after the ball. Note the ref coming in waving incomplete.
