I think it's about time they got another road playoff win. Since 1981 the Niners are 1-8 on the road in the playoffs. Some may see that as sobering, I see it as them being due.

Aaron Schatz (Football Outsiders):

Early analysis: Our numbers will favor NE and SF, but it is closer than raw DVOA totals suggest... (cont)

(cont) BAL is a bad matchup for NE (esp. deep threats) and HFA will help even up the ATL-SF game just like it did ATL-SEA.

i don't see it as sobering at all. I hate those type of stats, they mean nothing. This is a different team different coaches etc... what Young & Montana's 9ers did mean nothing to them.

aliens abducting kap to conduct experiments on the human race?

No because that would still leave Alex to beat them. The Falcons need Kaep to play like a young QB with no experience and for our Defense to lay an egg which is something that has happened a few times.

Matchup wise though our D should crush them and our running game should be able to over power theirs.

Like Seattle's did?

Yeah that must not be likely, because Seattle and San Francisco is exactly the same. And Seattle lost, so our D shouldn't crush Atlanta's offense and our running game shouldn't be able to over power the Falcons.

Seriously though, I get that we can't predict what will happen exactly, but I wouldn't get encouraged or discouraged on what will happen based upon how Seattle did. I'll look at our team and yours and figure out what I expect.

I expect the game to be closer than the Packers game and not as close as your game with the Seahawks (at the end) - but I could be wrong, of course. I didn't exactly go out on a limb on that one, obviously. I feel we'll win with our defense and running - whether that be Kaep or Gore. Atlanta can win this game, but I'm going to expect a win by the Niners and just see what happens.

Just like Harbaugh pounds the pads and head of the QB before games to get them going like being hit for the first time, Harbaugh should have Kaep throw against our defense until we get a pick, and then he can go in the game to avenge the INT.

Falcons' fans already talking ish on their website(not here)

They should thank Pete Carroll for giving their kicker a second chance. I still can't believe why they call timeouts. He could have been mad saying he didn't call the timeout or be mad that the refs let the kicker practice - but as we saw in the Ravens game, the kicker can still kick during a timeout to practice. He shouldn't be mad if it's the latter because if he didn't want to give the kicker a free kick, he should have not called the timeout or called it way earlier. If he didn't call it at all, he should just be happy that the Fail Mary got them into the playoffs. (They wouldn't have made it, would they? Or would it just have given the Packers the 2nd seed?)

I wouldn't be calling Matt Bryant Matty Ice Bryant like Mike Smith suggested, because he missed the first one (he could guess it but couldn't know that there was going to be a timeout - and you always try to make it regardless - and he missed). Credit for making it the second time, that took some nerves, but "ice"? Nah, not after you missed it the first time.

I wonder how bad the John Abraham injury is. He wasn't in the game much after his ankle issues.

There's a chance ATL might have some emotional letdown after finally winning in the playoffs.

Having them narrowly squeeze by Seattle is much better than them blowing them out.

would've prefered they blew Seattle out, to get over confident this Sunday.
