I think we all know Vince being cut was coming, still sad to see him go. So.....Lead me to think about what the next shoe will be to drop to increase cap space and sign some guys. I came up with this:

Mayo-Traded. Lots of teams looking for LB help, and this would help NE sign Ayers to a cheaper contract. I like what Ayers has to offer and was a little upset when 95 came back and Ayers sat more. We have talent/depth at LB. I think Mayo could bring us another pick for next yr. 3rd pick based on play time.

Solder- Traded. Someone always looking for a LT who just won the SB. Ya I know...Who will play LT?? Easy, move Seabass over there (he has played LT before). Start Fleming at RT, unless you get a stud in the draft. Now you can take care of the OG pos in the draft. Get a pick for next yr. Hard to judge what you get back from him.

Amendola- Trade. After the end of the season, some team will want a slot WR. This just clears up cap space and then they can sign Hartline if they want.

Curious what you all think will happen. Team needs to make room, and BB has no issues trading anyone. I think all 3 can bring something back to this team.

I believe Solder is a free agent next year. If that is the case....a team wont give you much for him due to him being able to leave.

I was not to sure, and to lazy to look it up. Was it that his money this yr is not guaranteed? Something like that. Anyways, I mean it is worth a shot to try. Teams are more willing to trade for a guy before he hits FA. I mean his money is not that bad to some teams, and they rework him too. Like I said, just a thought.

The NFL is not the MLB or NBA or NHL. No team has made three trades of starting players in at least 50 years. Salary cap issues prevent most trades from happening because the team on the other end has to absorb the cap hit. Think anyone wants to eata $10.2M cap hit with Mayo, a $4.5M cap hit with Amendola or a $7.7M hit with Nate Solder??

The Patriots will offer all three a chance to renegotiate their contracts and with an extension, guarantee the dollars remaining on the present contract. It's a win-win for everyone. The Patriots will reduce their cap position for 2015 by at least $12M and keep three valuable players.

It's the only way. Nobody will give them what they think they are worth.
Solder we need,
Amendola improved at end of year but has not earned his pay,
Mayo we don't need but cannot cut until he comes back. (injury clause)
We may be able to save a little on Amendola and Solder but it won't be anywhere near the $12 million your thinking. IMHO.....

By no means did I think all 3 would happen. I was talking one of them and some restructures. I think Mayo would be the easier one to trade, but at this point who knows....lets find out about Revis and go from there.

Mayo would be way-overpaid in a trade. Nobody is going to give an inside LB that much. Especially one that has played sparingly in the last 2 seasons and is aging. He is our problem. He can't be cut until he comes back healthy. That means unless he is ready to restructure. He's ours - for now. If he is ready to restructure, We won't give him anything longer than 1 or 2 years. He can make 4.5 million by not playing. What are we going to give him this year?

It's a double edged sword. The Patriots can't cut him without taking a $4.5M cap hit because of the health penalty. The sword swings the other way in August. If Mayo comes back healthy and practices, the Patriots can cut him with no cap hit or they can renegotiate his contract. If he can't get healthy by the start of the season, the Patriots can cut him and only take a $2.5M hit.

Mayo may be thinking about redoing that contract right now because the Pats are talking to Brooks Reed a free agent LB who played for the Texans
