Ahh, good. Finally, some good news for NinerSickness after those Sandusky convictions.
On a serious note, when the County said "Let's be real: That stadium is going to get built whether or not you get this $30 million," it reminded me of a person walking out on a group dinner saying, "Let's be real: someone's going to pay the full bill, even if I don't pay." Or a person eating 95% of the appetizers at a party saying, "let's be real: this plate was going to be empty by the end of the party, whether or not I ate most of it." I just don't get the County's point. He could have said that teachers were more important without looking like the moocher/opportunistic jerk. It's not like Santa Clara gets nothing from having the stadium and team within its county lines. Nor is it like they did get so much positive press and support by pledging the amount they initially did.
Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews: "Just because you can find a legal argument doesn't make things right,". "Some things are right and wrong, and we have an obligation to the 49ers. It was voted on by the citizens."
Good for the Mayor.
Call me old fashioned but if you give your word on something you should honor it especially if you're in politics and supposed to be held to a higher standard (yea yea I know I'm dreaming).
What a classless and cowardly move on SC's part to wait till the 49ers started to build the stadium and reach a point of no return than pull the funds. Than have the gall to say "Well it's going to get built anyways" and shrug their shoulders.
On top of that use education as a shield to deflect criticism when it's likely that 30 million will get lost in bureaucracy of the school district and teacher's union and the kids will probably see little benefit from that 30 million.
This truth is perhaps the saddest part of it all. But, on the positive side, at least the kids may see a "little benefit" whereas with the alternative they would have seen zero benefit.
Agreed that it is sad.
Especially when you consider that politicians think the solution is just to keep throwing money at the problem and not fix the actual problem which is a broken education system.
If California just fixed the way it uses it's money than it wouldn't nearly be in the mess it's in financially as it is now.

The two councilmembers who voted against the idea -- Jamie McLeod and Will Kennedy -- said the city should open the land to all potential developers instead of working only with Montana.
They have a point.
I agree in the concept that McLeod and Kennedy used for their vote but if memory serves, Montana and his partners placed their bids soon after the stadium construction was approved. No other developers came forward to put their bid in during that time to my knowledge/ recollection.
