Here's my take on the other place. The two biggest problems were lack of GOOD moderation, and lack of posters having the self control to ignore the idiots who may not have violated the TOS and been "bannable", but were there to attract negative attention and nothing else. Now we have good moderation, but any board can fail if it lacks one of those two important aspects; good moderation, and self control. Now eventually, some clowns are going to find this board and say some dumb things. If they spam, make racist comments, or are obviously looking to be vulgar or troll, yeah you can ban them. But I don't think you can ban someone for constantly making dumb, uninformed, homeristic, or ignorant posts. I suppose you COULD ban them, but I'm kind of against that. In theory, we should be able to post a link to this place right out in the open, and between moderating the twits and ignoring the tools, not suffer in terms of board quality.
Basically what I'm saying is, we have a good thing going right now. But if the same posters fall into the same traps and feed the trolls, this place will look exactly like the old one. Maybe the moderation will keep it from being AS bad, but if every thread eventually gets hijacked because people can't stop themselves from responding...
Eddie, you make some real good points. I think if you have the general crowd that knows hockey, and likes hockey for all the right reasons, it makes threads a lot more funner, and even the less educated fans can learn and ask questions without getting ripped apart for their lack of knowledge. This happened a lot at the other venue simply because it got to the point nobody knew if half those post's were serious. You had to wade through so much bullshit just to find legitimate threads that actually talked hockey. I think on here there will be more of a neighborhood watch approach. Let's just hope it doesn't get to that. I'm sure eventually the other good posters will find a way over here.
