Every poll in america is taken like that even the ones you support. I highly doubt the WAPO would skew a poll against their own point of viewGreat poll....562 recognized tribes in the U.S. and a telephone poll of 504 people.

As stated by several people this poll is typical of all polls and because of the broad diversity of people polled was typical of any poll. As any poll there is a spread or potential of difference involved with this poll. It is about 5% so either 8.5 or 9.5 native Americans are not offended by the name Redskins. But like Costas and many others you can tell these folks they are wrong for feeling the way they do.
Fixed it for youI've maintained all along that if the redskin population believed that the name was a slur to them, then it should be changed. But only they can ascertain if it is or not. Clearly redskins don't find the name offensive. Not only does this poll support that, but the mere fact that many of the redskin high schools use the Redskins as their team mascot is further proof.
Fortunately for redskins, they have the Bob Costas and Mike Wises of the world looking out for them.

The thing about the poll was it was spread across many demographics. Conservative, liberal, age, sex wealth, education etc. Clearly some native American's see it as a slur, but do they change a name for 10% of the people?
I continue to say over and over there are much bigger issues for native Americans. Lets address those instead of the name issue. The other issues would do a lot more good for Indians than making a bunch of people making themselves feel better over a name. My guess is most who are offended by the name have no clue what the other issues are. To me, that is the sad thing.
My 1/4 native American wife gets very offended when I refer to her as my part native American wife
As long as the "money" keeps flowing, she "loves" me...It's the "wife" part that bothers her

You support a name change, Sty? I certainly don't. Being a lifelong fan of the Redskins, but having no ties whatsoever to the region the Skins call home. The wrong name would fundamentally and possibly drastically change every aspect of connection I have to the team.
But if a name change were to occur. What would you like it to be? I've only come up with one name that I think would work. The Washington Warriors. It flows alright off the lips, not as good as Washington Redskins mind you, but it has a decent enough flow. Plus it would essentially allow the Skins to maintain everything else. The mascot, the color scheme and most importantly. The warrior chief which imo is the greatest emblem in ALL of sports encompassing foreign, domsetic, amateur and professional sports.
Hmm. So you are one of those that feel that Native Americans aren't smart enough to know what is offensive to them and what is not? Thus they need others to fight the good fight?Time will tell who's right and wrong about this.

saying hillary clinton should be in jail isnt hate speech , posting a tweet with a man dressed up in some awful looking garb and asking the question about it isnt hate speech .
for the record the pic was way over the top and very radical IMO however if you are going to fire one guy for a political view point and state we dont want political view points at our station the you have to do the same to the other point of view
i expect fair and balanced reporting and not some ideologue driven BS
to say that a man or woman should use the restroom that corresponds to their current anatomy isnt so bad is it . i am not saying that transgenders are some sex predators waiting for my wife and children to pounce on however people can use this for their own gain and advantage and we should look at that
a simple solution is to have a family / unisex bathroom to use and both sides are protected however some people just want to force people to do things for reasons of power
now not at any point did i call a liberal stupid because of their point of view but i certainly held them accountable for their lack of openness
for the record liberals and conservatives are not stupid .
