Might I suggest we drop this. Because the reality is, The team name is a word and semantics. How one speaks a word to be meant and how it was actually conveyed can differ greatly. As for the how one identifies ones self, thats a personal choice. So as long as that choice does not infringe on any one elses rights, its all good. If Im really worried about confusion, I will simply instruct my nieces and nephews and any future grand children to be sure they pee before we go out, as we wont be using any public restrooms if it really bothers me. Most that paint this country's issues into a liberal vs conservative box are generally confused individuals in any case. We arent going to change any ones mind, so I suggest if we really think some one is severely fucked up in the head, we take advantage of the ignore poster feature that the hoop was so kind as to install. Hell Im up to 4 ignored. And the longer this thread goes on, the higher that count is likely to go.

Not sure why some feel the need to make the Skins name a liberal thing. My father - who's strongly liberal - is very angry about the possibility of a name change, while my sister - who's independent - has the opposite view on the name. She helps operate an Indian museum and actually does talk to leaders of Indian tribes, so I tend to value her view on this subject. She changed my mind on the issue. But again, our views on it have zero to do with politics.

For bathrooms, honestly I'm not sure how it helps anyone to add a 3rd bathroom. But it's a completely different subject than the Skins name issue.

If you've got a teenage daughter that's showering after a PE class, some fathers might have more of a beef with this than others.

Not to belabor this shark, but do you think it's that simple when the Obama administration just promulgated guidance requiring any public school receiving federal guidance allow TG students not only to use bathrooms of their choice but lockerrooms as well? If you've got a teenage daughter that's showering after a PE class, some fathers might have more of a beef with this than others.

I think it is that simple actually. Most public bathrooms have individual stalls in this country.Even the urinals have mini dividers unless you are in some of the more seedy dives. So they will have to institute some sort of changing stalls in locker rooms in school. And institute individual shower stalls as well, and a minimum towel policy. I actually think the whole thing is a joke, and a distraction from the real issues. Just as the team name is a distraction from the fact that Native Americans have been given the short end of the stick for years. Instead of focusing on the real issues ( Joblessness, Homelessness, A minimum wage that most people could barely live off even if they were single and willing to live in squalor) we are more concerned with giving some one equal rights because they made a choice to be different. And no Im not saying some one chooses to be transgender, but it is a choice to try and force every one else to accept and embrace you for who you are and make concessions to make your life easier for you and to hell with if it makes some one else uncomfortable. Because after all, the most important thing is the she-male feels comfortable while he/she is taking a dump right??

Cali, cool and understand where you are coming from. I will simply point out again that the team name thing, much like any thing else these days apparently. If you dont like something, make it about race or discrimination and you stand a pretty good chance of getting it lumped in with the social misguidance agenda. The bathroom thing, much like the gay marriage thing is more about forced acceptance of a particular sub culture than it is about rights. My two uncles lived together for 40 years and never had a LEGAL Marriage. It never caused them a day of unhappiness that the USA didnt recognize their marriage. It did how ever bother them that some family members were not accepting of them. But I agree, we have gone off the reservation on this one. (slight pun intended)

My question to people who use this line...

and the Native American Journalists Association has questioned whether ongoing use of a dictionary-defined slur should be the subject of public opinion, regardless of the outcome.


My question for these folks would be simply this... If Websters edition 2017 came out and defined lettuce as an intelligent life form to rival man kind some day, would they stop eating salads?? My point being, when did we get to a point where words define us as people instead of us as people defining the meaning (context) we put behind words??
