Ok, as I am always trying to help - how about the Black Caulks? If you say it real fast it doesnt sound like the name has changed at all, plus it pays homage to all the good builders in the Chicago area. I do not see how anyone can have a problem with this:

They are named after an actual person, Chief Black Hawk. The logo is a stylized depiction of that human.

Black Hawk's story is a pretty good one and anyone who wants them to change that name is... missing the point

Redskins, however...


In a fine line, but the best comparison (and one that fell on deaf ears with my Redskins loving brother in law) is if you wanted to honor Martin Luther King and named your team the Kings. Or, similarly, if you named your team something that started with "Nappy-headed". THAT'S the difference between Redskins and Blackhawks.



Columbus' team is actually (somewhat) named after a Native American person also:

They are officially named for the Civil war Ohio regiment that named themselves in honor of Chief Blue Jacket.

Which is better than the Columbus Van Swearingens. But I might be able to get behind the Columbus Marmadukes.


Edit: I like the look of the new logo, but see absolutely nothing wrong with the old one. Second best unis in the NHL. Only Montreal is better.

As I said, name is fine and I understand what the logo is depicting but I can also understand why a Native person might say "That's racist as fuck" given the studies that have shown sports logos and mascots to be associated with ethnic stereotyping that we in the 21st century tend to find reprehensible.

What I find seems to always be glossed over in any discussion about this is that the major cost isn't the building, but the monitoring/patrolling/guarding/whatever the fuck the word is. If you've got a 2,000 mile wall you can't even bother to pretend that it's doing any good unless you've got about a jillion (mostly new) government employees working it, and those people aren't going to come cheap.
