| WVU hires golf coach

I am not sure if I am in the minority on this, but I am pumped about the golf team coming back. Did they ever decide where they are playing home matches?

They don't play home matches in Div 1 golf anymore. Teams play in tournaments with fairly large fields.

As far as practice facilities, and where the team will practice... I don't think that has been set yet.

Raese's Pikewood offers the best course with the best local practice facilities, and before he went after Luck, I believe this is where the team was going to practice locally.

It is going to be tough to start. I think he only has 1.5 schollies to offer recruits this year. So kids will likely be on partial schollies and asked to walk-on the first year.


The coach will have to be creative and quite the salesman.

I imagine they will play down here at UMD, they host a couple a season....the university course is pretty nice I have played it a couple of times.

Last Friday I flew from Charlotte to Pittsburgh with a gentleman originally from Morgantown but now resides in Houston. His son currently attends UT and he started commenting on the golf and tennis facilities there. Texas plays at a country club owned by 2 brothers. The brothers wanted to incorporate the UT name within their country club and in exchange would allow UT to host their golf matches there. When the tennis team needed a place to play, these guys built the tennis courts there and provided them for UT tennis team's use.

He said the facilities are top notch and said "you know the football practice facility at WVU?" And then started laughing. We talked about the past couple of seasons and he felt that DH may be gone after this season if he doesn't win 6 games. He mentioned how the locals in Mo'town hated Luck for all the changes but felt that it was due to all the changes he was making. This guy felt that those people have no clue what it took to join and compete in the Big 12. Sounds familiar?!?!

Not for much longer...rumor is they are selling that real estate...too bad..good course!

The UMD course? Really? I will look into that...still have a couple of contacts in the AD over there.

I heard the school is going to sell it off to a development group for housing!....ugh.

Saw his presser...seems a bit overwhelmed!..young guy!...they program has a 1.8 milllion endowment...not bad for getting the program off the ground...

Slaton...heard the rumor, but I am also hearing that it is just that....UMD has some powerful golf alumnus that do not want to hear all this jazz about selling it off. Guess we will see who wins.

As you know, they love their golf in WV. While Marshall has had a long standing... successful golf program which recruited the best of WV... WVU is entering the big time of college golf. And, I think the state's golf supporters are excited to enter the field.
