Mini Vans have a great ride and a lot of nice features but I could never bring myself to buy one.
When I needed extra room with all the kids, I bought this.

Terrible gas mileage but felt way better about myself, plus could actually haul stuff home from the Home Depot.
But I'm kinda fucked up like that.

The manliest thing you can do is make the best decision for your family. Why be persuaded to purchase something that doesn't fit your needs in the sake of a "man card"? I always found that mindset interesting, like those men who won't purchase tampons for their wife, as if that somehow devalued you as a man. If you're not confident in your own self, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

With that said, I actually sold my Mustang Cobra that I've owned since 1999 this past year to purchase a 2012 Honda Odyssey and I'm very happy with it. Definitely makes long trips a lot easier when you have more than one child. The only 'regret' is I wish they had the built in vacuums in that year model too.

Thoughts?

It's fucking great!

Every weekend, I sit in a big captain's chair in the middle of a Toyota Sienna watching the movie of choice...chomping popcorn n shit with my 2 girls while momma drives us wherever. When we're done messing it up, the floor is SO spacious, momma vacuums the van with our regular floor vacuum...takes like 10 seconds!

We got the top of the line one with a skyroof and reclining seats with leg rests. If you have to drive, get whatever you want. If someone else is willing to drive, get a damned van! I like driving nice stuff...but on Sat. with the kids, I'm sitting right here:

Honda Odyssey is the leader in the class, but they're crazy expensive.

Pretty confident I'd never bring myself to spending 50k on a minivan.

By the way, if my garage door is ever tall enough to accommodate, I'll get a modern conversion van. Now this road trip would be sa-weet!

I need to find one of those poor, unemployed FSU grads to drive me around.

I didn't like it and bought the Toyota. (not much cheaper) The Honda has the sliding door rail on the outside which is ugly and the kids will probably stick shit in there.
Plus the design of the Honda, IMO, was unacceptable. The back looks like a topper slapped on a shortbed....just unnecessarily ugly.

So, for a mommy-mobile, I thought the Toyota best. If it were for me I'd get a Town and Country because they have the seats that collapse all the way into the floor...the greatest option ever. If you're bringing a new TV or whatever home, you can slide it right in like a cargo van. You can get a babied, low mileage T&C for $20k and they're nice.

If a Sprinter is out of the budget, a T&C would be my suggestion as well.

We have a Honda Odyssey that is now nearly a decade old. It's a very good car. Yes, expensive but we have a friend who bought a Chrysler and it did not last 5 years. You get what you pay for. Buy a Honda or Toyota minivan. Also look at the Honda Pilot SUV. It's a like a minivan inside, but more manly.

Thoughts?

lulz

That is all.

Seriously though, there are some damn nice minivans out there and I wouldn't be opposed to one if we had more kids. The Dodge Caravans have a lot of features for not a lot of price, but they are suspect on how long they will last. A buddy of mine has just learned that the hard way because his for some reason eats through rear brakes and the dealer has no fix. They just stick for no reason on his model year and burn up in 100 miles after being fine for 5k or maybe just 1k.

I'm a big fan of the Honda Odyssey. It has more road noise though than the Toyota Sienna. The Sienna looks terrible though.

I have a Pilot too by the way. A blue 2014 model. It's a nice car but like most mid-sized or larger SUVs it guzzles the gas. My wife is jealous and always tried to take it over on weekends now.

We just got a pilot as well, the 4WD version. What a joke the 4WD is, but still has it. I didn't like it at first, I loved our old 4runner and wanted another one. But the wife wanted the loaded pilot, so we got the loaded pilot. Overall a nice drive and tons of room. 3rd row seats have been used once, was a real time saver not needing two cars.

Why not a crossover? Not great, but good enough to keep your man-card. Basically it's a mini-van for people who don't want the label.

I've driven Odysseys, Caravans, and crossovers like a Sorrento, and they all have their good points.

My kids totally loved the Caravan we rented a few years back, they begged us to buy one. It was like a moving treehouse with electricity.

They are all too slow. 400HP or GTFO

But seriously. I had a F150 and hauled 4 kids all over the state with it.

Caravans are great to rent, and what most companies have tons of. However, it's nice to be able to return them after a week instead of maintain them.

Seriously, the Ford Explorer is SO much higher quality in ride and finish than fucking rice burner. What were you thinking? Hell, the Expl. even gets better mileage.
