Much chatter about the Colorado State or Ohio Bobcats coach.

The only ones I pray are not on the list is Steve Alford and Billy Gillispie.

I already expect to be disappointed so the excitement just isn't there for me.

Mike Davis was the guy that took over for Bobby Knight. He just got fired from UAB.

You know what? In this day and age where every basement blogger has credentials, I seriously would not be surprised if that worked.

well this has been my opinion since the rumors of doc gettting fired started.

1. New arena
2. New conference! the best cbb one out there!
3. The university has money to spend on athletics!!

Now we need to go out and use all this stuff that we have going for us and we need to commit to the basketball program! not just commit by gettin some avg coach.

in my honest opinion why cant we go get a #2 or #3 guy off of some big names bench,
coach k, roy williams, boheim, calhoun, calipari, self, izzo!

if we throw some money at him, and use all this other stuff we have working for us, we could get him, but we have to commit all the way and pay BIG MONEY! multi millions, and all we would need would be one or two big names good recruits to get this thing going in the right direction!

you cant tell me that coach K doesnt know who will replace him, so you know there is an assistant on that bench that wont get the head coaching job, so why not go out start your own name and get us to the tourny every once in awhile and be the SAVIOR of mens college basketball in NEBRASKA!

and if he fails we only lost a few millon, wtf, lets try it!

There's no way T.O. is gonna pay multi-millions for a Nebrasketball coach.

Pelini only makes $2.8 mil

I would be suprised if the new hire makes more than $1.2 mil and actually expect it will be more like $900k base w/ a $50k or so tournament bonus.

We're talking about T.O. who worked for peanuts while he was head coach, and the guy that hired Erstad w/ absolutely zero coaching experience who's also working for peanuts.

NU's gonna pick up a mid-major who's had some spotty tournament appearances. They're gonna double his salary and hope he can sell the new facilities enough to improve the talent level and get Nebrasketball into the big dance every few years or so. ie..5th, 6th, or 7th in the BiG.

Post season play (NIT/CBI) year in and year out sprinkled with an NCAA appearance every few years is the goal and will be enough to keep the fish biting enough to support the program (which is the goal).

Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble (no pun intended), but I'm not gonna allow myself to be let down by this hire. New coach = New 'chance', nothing more.

The problem is, here at Nebraska a coach who has a spotty past will never make the NCAA Tourney.

It's gonna take someone special this time. I think that's why Marc Boehm came out and said we will open up the checkbook this time around. He said this is the last time we want to do this for a while, so we want to get it right.

What does that mean tho, and by who's definition?

Well I interpret "opening the checkbook" as being significantly more than we were paying our previous coach.

ok

I interpret it as paying someone twice what they were previously making.
