Injuries aren't an excuse. Jack Youngblood played on a broken leg. A bad thumb. What he couldn't throw the ball with his other hand?
he can which was why he still played. But at time they had no idea extent of injury which was why they also did not want him to get hit if they could help it.

Of course it matters.

However, the best part of Cleveland’s offense is always going to be the running backs and the O-line.

Defenses have to focus on that first. WR talent matters less for a team that has such a dynamic run game. Mediocre WRs should be able to beat man coverage.
So funny you refuse to even consider the run game also aided by Baker's ability to sling it downfield and the D needing to account for that.

I do agree QBs make the WRs more than the other way around but teams are still better off with their top WRs than not.

Imagine that- the Browns- a team that was perpetual garbage- Mayfield gets drafted- and immediately turns them into a team that at least has to be respected- doesnt even START for 3 games--- and still breaks the All Time NFL Record for TD passes for a rookie QB.

Yah- Mayfield had a shitty 2nd year under Kitchens who was an idiot, and started slow with Stefanski- who was his 4th HD and 4th offensive coordinator.

the Mayfield detractors are going to have to eat a lot of crow before all is said and done - that is for sure.

biggest minus for Mayfield- if you ask me, before coming into this year was his completion %. It was what he had to work on, and get it up to at least 63-65%.

Right now its over 80%. He keeps getting better and improving parts of his game.

seems like that started, as you say, after getting more comfortable in the offense last year by midseason. Couple games he didn't hit that mark, but one was with his top 4-5 receivers out of the game and other was in hurricane like conditions.

I'd like to see his % stay at 65-70% (higher would be great) with yards/attempt close to 8.0 or higher. Of course, limit the TOs.

you can run in the NFL- and the Browns do- and do it as well as anybody.

but anyone that knows anything about football knows that you have to air it out to win at a high rate in todays game.

its why the Browns have Landry and OBJ, and Hooper- all whom they pay big money too. Its why they have spent draft picks on DPJ and Schwartz the last 2 years. Its why they have kept Njoku around despite him crying for a trade at times last year. Its why they drafted Harrison Bryant to be a 3rd tight end high in the 4th round.

the run game is great- and it CAN be the focus at times- but MAKE NO MISTAKE--- when the Browns have to air it out and play that type of game---- like against the Titans last year- the offense ran for 118 yards and Baker threw for 340 with 4 TD's---- The Browns can air it out with just about anyone with Baker and their collection of pass catchers (when they are actually on the field).

the leading receiver that game? Rashard Higgins---- who right now as pass catchers go is behind Landry, OBJ, and somewhere mixed in with Schwartz, Peoples-Jones, Njoku, Hooper, and Bryant----- not to mention Felton and Hunt who look excellent at coming out of the backfield to catch balls.

There are some who just don't want to give Baker his due and realize while not elite at this time he could certainly end up just behind the elite of the elite. Hard to say anyone will be Brady, Brees or Rodgers (or Mahomes). I suspect it's because they just don't like the guy (hell, I didn't until last season).

I never said they weren’t.

Every team has players/positions that they can’t replace.

For Cleveland, Landry and ODB just aren’t nearly as important as the RB tandem, the line or Baker.

...and there are those that take the suggestion that he's not top 10 currently as a personal jab. If he isn't elite now (as you agreed above), where is the disconnect here?

In reality, it's a passing game that is elite more than just the QB in most cases. If Mahomes had been drafted by the Dolphins, Detroit, or Jets, is he still an annual MVP candidate? Calling Josh elite at this stage in his career is jumping the gun too IMO. Beyond Brady/Rodgers/Mahomes.....?

Meh. Probably not. You guys are kinda weird. I haven’t seen a single opinion here that has ever questioned whether Mayfield is a legit NFL starter and a top half of the league QB. You guys seem to get your back up if people push back on the opinion that he’s a star or a top 10 QB. Nothing wrong with that but being real, he’s just not that guy.

Have you seen most of the taunting penalties? Most of them are not over-celebration. It is players showing emotion. Out of the 11, i say 1 or 2 was over-celebrating

Who said that any of the taunting was over-celebrating? I was referring to the idiots that have to spin the ball, motion for first down and do a dance after making a short catch for a first down. The defense running to the end zone to mug for the camera to celebrate a turnover (that is often overturned lol) is pathetic too.

maybe on a week-in-and-week-out basis during the regular season- but in the playoffs- you have to compete with the high powered offenses and throw the ball down the field and stretch the field.

without LAndry and OBJ they cant do that. Without them the ceiling is pretty good team. With them you have a chance at the whole enchilada

you cant run the ball to a championship in todays NFL.

The 2020 Titans had the 31st ranked pass D in the league.

Im ok with the ball spin but don't do it in your opponents face like Cook did.

I dont think he has done enough to be warranted "that guy" yet- but I absolutely think he will.

He came to a team that was historically inept, he has had nothing but turnover until recently with his coaching staff, yet is the leader of a Browns team that some have picked to compete for the Super Bowl.

that doesnt happen without him. That doesnt happen if he is Kirk Cousins. His value is more than many people think- I hear on the radio all the time national guys saying hes "not the guy"- but I think he is going to prove that he is "that guy"

we shall see.
