Damn that's a lot of money.
Been this way quite a while unfortunately. Some good players get forced out before their time or have to play pretty cheap because of this stuff. They are basically paying for the first 6 years of the contract, the rest will be charity.I don't hate Ohtani.
Hate the system. it's stupid.
Right on the numberAlmost 1 quarter in and the under 28.5 looking like a fucking lock,
I have been saying ceiling and floor for years now.A lotta haters in here.....
LOL.

Got a feeling they were bidding against themselves for the last 25 percent of that.
Not a single person in here is hatingComing from the Yankees fan......LOL.

Time to establish a cap ceiling and floor, MLB
the Mega deals are stupid as fuck.
Yep without a doubt. Didn't think he would get more than 550 or 600
Coming from the Yankees fan......LOL.
Not sure if he is pitching in 5 years
I am with you it could be an overpay but it isn’t for what you mention. They will make so much off Ohtani and he is the arguably the best superstar since Bonds. Totally worth it.Meh, I get the point of caps and floors, but I don't really agree with them. Especially caps. If one team can/is willing to spend more than another, they should be able to.
We've all said on here at 1 time or another that teams make far more money off of their superstars than they can ever pay them. If a team is willing to pay them more and maybe close that gap some, why shouldn't they be able to?
Having said that, I'm not really a fan of $700 million for Ohtani given his recent health issues. I get that they're paying for an elite everyday hitter and an elite starting pitcher in one player...But he's also had 2 "procedures" on his elbow now (no one seems to want to say this last one was Tommy John surgery, but it sure sounds a lot like Tommy John surgery). We know he's not going to be able to pitch this coming season so the thing the Dodgers actually need him for the most, he's not going to be available for.
I hope I'm wrong, but at that price, this seems like it has the potential to end up being a big mistake. Hell, they probably could have gotten 2 high level pitchers and at least a solid bat for what they're going to pay Ohtani.
I'm guessing he'll have no trouble paying his bills with that...Damn that's a lot of money.
They paid that much to prevent having to give him an opt outGot a feeling they were bidding against themselves for the last 25 percent of that.
They get the money back with marketing him in Japan and the US thoughThat's my concern too. As I said above, he's had 2 elbow procedures. In 5 years, the Dodgers could be paying him $70 million per for his bat. That's a helluva lot of money for a bat. No matter how good it is.
