How many 1sts did the Panthers turn down for Burns? Sweat is having a better season, both are still young for pass rushers.

Besides, I didn't say they were correctly thinking that, lol.
It keeps Sweat from going to a team that could actually use him this year, it's inexplicable. The Bears FO is soooooo bad.

If they re-sign him, it frees up those two expected top 5 picks to be used on different positions (or they could double-down I guess). Losing teams can make deadline trades to improve their roster too, they don't need to tank more.

But you don't have to give up a 2nd to sign him in the offseason. If he wasn't a rental this would make some sense.

Do you think he chooses to go to the Bears without the trade? At least now they can work on building a relationship with him and maybe he's more likely to take a comparable offer to stay in Chicago.

Pretty expensive gamble but that's why they're the Bears

They likely resign him. I don’t hate the move for the Bears. You can never get enough pass rush and they will get first chance to negotiate with a ton of cap. Sweat would likely have been a coveted player in FA. But poor Sweat. Hears he is getting traded and assumes he will have something to pay for as a contender grabs him. Nope. You went from poop to shit.

Yeah I just don't see that happening at this point.
It’s all about Watson and whether or not he can get back in a few weeks anyway. Brissett isn’t closing the deal for this team. If they can get him for a 5th and he plays the next four games to keep their head above water to get a healthy Watson back then you do it. Blood in the water in the AFC. Nobody looks like a juggernaut that can’t be beaten. Bengals and Bills have struggled out of the gate. Ravens and Dolphins still have to prove themselves and the Chiefs offense isn’t a world beater this season.
