I get that but I bear no ill will against the guy. He took ND and repaired the infrastructure. And in the end, he couldn’t get ND over the top. In hindsight, I’m glad he moved on.

Actually, two guys went with him in Polian and Denbrock.

Most of the high profile guys said no. Freeman stayed and was named head coach and Tommy Rees stayed on as ND’s OC turning down the same position in Baton Rouge. The two guys that moved on were after thoughts. Denbrock was with Kelly all the way back to Cincinnati.

I can respect that position because that territory is really fucked up. Where I am now on college coaches and the way they leave is : don’t hate the player; hate the game.

These big time programs want that coach on board immediately either keeping a recruiting class together, salvaging a class by looking for some decommits, or even just getting started on the juniors in high school for the next recruiting class. And truth be told, there’s a bit of karma here. ND was the beneficiary of BK doing the same shit to Cincinnati before he left. They were 12-0 and playing in the Sugar Bowl and he just left those kids high and dry.

Fl State took a very unnecessary risk by pitching the ball when they were running out the clock. I expect that is being discussed in coaching sessions across the country.
