But they're not going to do that. So the change I would make is that if the catcher is blocking the plate, it is only a violation if contact with the runner is imminent. The crazy calls seem to come when the runner is well up the line and contact isn't going to happen, yet they call him safe for "blocking" the plate. The plate can only be blocked if someone is there to block it from. If the runner isn't around the plate, it isn't blocked. They left the wording so ambiguous that the common sense is gone. That's what I would change.
