yes,he came from lynchburg about 75 miles away.deion sanders allegedly signed 16 players from the portal.
Yeah, I know Freeze as I am a Liberty alumni.

You asked why anyone would go to Auburn for football, well coaches usually have a big reason for why players come to a program. He has had a pretty good track record as a head coach.

I feel like the new measuring stick will combine both freshman recruits and transfer portal recruits. Ole Miss is #21, but with the transfer portal, I think they should be in the top 5 or better. Actually, just my opinion, I think the transfer portal recruits are going to be a better measurement of success in future years. Very few freshman make a big impact, while a guy that has a year or two (or more) playing college ball will have a bigger immediate impact. Also, it's more likely they won't leave again till they exhaust their eligibility or go to the NFL (although it still happens).

Ole Miss next year should give us a good picture of the value of the transfer portal. If they tank, then it will still be clear that recruiting high school athletes is king, but if they win 11 or more games, and make a nice playoff run, it may be where teams start putting more resources.

247 has a combined high school/transfer portal recruiting rankings. Ole Miss was ranked 13th.

Both are going to be important but the core of your team is always going to be built through high school recruiting IMO. It's always nice to fill holes or add elite talent through the portal, however.

I’m saying that I think the transfer portal will be a better team improvement gauge than high school recruiting.

To me it’s the difference between a draft pick and a free agent. With a free agent you’ve already seen what they can do against the competition. With a draft pick you just know what they did against mostly inferior, smaller competition.

Both are very important, but I think the transfer portal could have a dramatic improvement for teams more than a bunch of highly rated high school kids. We’ll see if my theory works next year.

I agree. Transfers are the best way to improve your team from year to year.

My point was that you won't contend for a title without strong recruiting classes and development. Just like most professional teams build their roster through the draft and then sign a free agent to give their team a boost in position where they need help.
