At the end of the day, even though it might be the right baseball move to send Rowand down or cut him outright and eat the salary so Nate can stay, that's such a huge financial writeoff that I doubt any team outside of New York or Boston would do it.

Yes, I know it's a sunk cost, but they figure if the money is spent, it's worth seeing if Rowand can keep producing at least ok, at least better than Nate would. If Nate were really good they'd probably bite the bullet and dump Rowand. But he's only slightly more useful to the team, so they hope Rowand earns at least some of the $.

Which just shows how damaging a really bad contract can be, and how it's clear the Giants have learned their lessons from this and Zito.

Remember also that RoRo brings something Nate doesn't -- he's put together a very good year. You'd hate to piss away 20+MM and have him put another one elsewhere. Nate's never had a good year, and he's got 800 PAs that show him to be a .270/.310/.400 hitter who plays great D. There is some value in that, but the odds are long he'll ever hit enough to justify a starting corner OF position. The odds are also long that RoRo will put together a .300/.370/.500 year again, but he's a safer bet to come close to his career averages of .270/.330/.440 than Nate, and the difference between them defensively in LF/RF isn't enough to cut RoRo.

I guess I've talked myself into keeping Gamer, and it wasn't even that hard.

Well, you are either...

A good lawyer for presenting a good case from a bad position.

or...

A bad lawyer for getting swindled by a fancy argument from another lawyer.

I will let the jury decide.

I've always wanted to cross examine myself.....

I'll take Nate because I hate seeing RoRo in that "I'm poop'in" stance. Thanks for saving Sachy's nono, but 'll be glad when you're gone Rowand.

I would love to keep Ford, but he has options so he will likely be the true casualty when Towers comes back. However, if we can get ANY kind of prospect for Nate, let's do it and keep Ford on the roster.

+1. Amazing what speed can do. If he could only hit just a little bit...

Agreed re: RoRo. My buddies and I call him "dropadeuce" for that very reason. Lately he's been shortened to "his deuceness," "deucer," or "El Deucerino" if you're not into that whole brevity thing.

AWESOME!!!

I never quite understood why he took so much heat for that play.

Did he take heat for that? I know the catcher wasn't pleased, but, fuck him, stay out of the base paths buddy.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember him taking heat since it was an international game, and all players should be playing while holding each other's cocks (or something to that extent).

Now I'm no infielder, but it seems that would make it particularly difficult to turn a double play....

Zidane says, "I got your international game, right here!"

That's the only legit injury I've EVER seen in intl soccer -- and curiously the victim didn't flop like a 7 yo girl who got her Barbie taken away.

Seriously.... soccer players, particularly Latin American born ones, are the biggest pussies I've come across.
