They should have saved all the printer ink and just put McDermotts name as the only name on the ballot.

Agreed; he wins going away. Will he be the top draft choice...absolutely not as most of those names on that list go before him. Doesn't matter we are talking best in College and IMO, he is an easy choice. Creighton is a mediocre team without him.

Everyone is still looking for the great white hope. I would take Jabari Parker or Julius Randle over anyone on the list.

Huh? Only 4 players on that list will get drafted before McDermott, in all likelihood.

If Creighton has an early exit in the tourney and one of these other guys has a great tournament and gets to the FF... they could challenge him for the award.

agreed on parker. But julius randle is highly overrated, wait and see how he struggles in the nba (struggles to be the "elite" prospect so many think of him as.

Also, wiggins will still be the best long-term nba player

no, because creighton WILL have an early-ISH exit and he will still 100% win this award.

they will lose despite dougie mcdermott, not because of him.

oh ya, have i mentioned yet that creighton blows ballsack?

The award is determined before the tourney is even over.

But after the final four is decided

No. It's announced. The decision is made well before hand. The tourney doesn't factor in its just like playoffs when doing an MVP.

Burkes championship game run had nothing to do with his winning

I get what you're saying, but the tournament definitely has an impact (though sometimes minimal) on the final tally. The fan voting (which is 25% of the votes) is open until after the first week in April. That, alone, shows that performance through the first 4 games of the tournament can have an impact on the result.

IMO, Creighton is a "one trick pony" and all the teams that will be in the final 4 have a boatload of excellent players who know how to play team defense which takes away from individual performances. Without McDermott, Creighton is a mediocre team....he makes them excellent. Really don't see how this one is not a landslide vote for him.

O yeah I forgot they fan tally for this. I was thinking just the actual voters. I know they don't let the tourney sway them.

Anyways, it'll be really hard for it to have any impact. Like Kemba for example. He still lost to Jimmer.

The Jimmer/Kemba example is a great one. If there was ever a time for someone to use the tourney to overtake the frontrunner, that would've been it.

You've convinced me.

Yikes I actually agree 98% with something you said. Except for the "he makes them excellent" part.

But you are right, he would have to go 0 for 173 to finish the season to not win this award.

You need to watch a few more Creighton games. I actually fucking despise Creighton, but I will give credit where credit is due and when they are clicking, they are anything but a "one trick pony".
