Sorry Aggie... I will give you Zappa being immensely creative, but I listen to a shit ton of jazz. Some of the best music I know is blending jazz and metal. Listen to Blotted Science and Spastik Ink. Unless you have an ear for metal and jazz you will not apreciate it, but it is some of the best shit ever written. A lot of their music is written to coincide with movie scenes. Search Youtube for Blotted Science - "Cretaceous Chasm", goes perfectly with a scene from the remake of King Kong. "A Wild Hare" by Spastik Ink has a scene that matches a scene from Bambi perfectly. Just very technical and creative "metal-jazz fusion". No vox though. None needed.
I wasn't saying it wasn't jazz or good jazz for that matter, I was saying leader obviously doesn't listen to very much if he's using redundant terms.
Saying "Experimental Metal Jazz Fusion" is his way of trying to intimidate other people with buzzwords yet again, and it's pretty senseless to use both "metal" and "fusion" in the same genre label. That would be like saying "Jazz Rock Fusion." The rock/metal is implied by the term fusion.
I don't listen to THAT much jazz, but when I do I usually listen to people like Miles Davis, or Charlie Parker. You know, the old school stuff. (My buddy turned me onto it)
'Tis good stuff. But I lean in the more modern guitar oriented jazz musician direction. Like I said before, I am really diggin Metheny lately. I also enjoy Peter White a lot (smooth jazz).
