yes

that there are old fogeys on the course who need to learn to have fun.

...and there we are. You already know that you annoy others on the course. You don't care that you do.

I'm a shit golfer and I don't mind people in my 4some yakking while I'm shooting.

But if some yahoo had a speaker blaring it would bother me.

Just like cell phones.

I can't say I've ever run into this before on the course, but playing your music within earshot of others who may not want to listen to it is what headphones are for.

Bumping this one.

My buddy asked me to sub for his friend in the league last night. No problem, he's an acquaintance and a good guy.

On the first hole he asked me if I'd mind him playing music. The moment he asked, he cast me into one of two undesirable positions. I have to either listen to annoying music the whole round or be the kill joy for the entire round. I had to be honest and go with option #1 but then all night I noticed the silence and felt a tad guilty.

If I take a phone call in the clubhouse, I'm expected to take the call outside. In fact this is common practice at our private club. The idea is that you're creating noise pollution that others shouldn't be subjected to. Well what's the difference between the two? Why can't I just claim that I always talk quietly and if someone asks me to, I'll take it outside? Why doesn't that same sort of excuse apply?

If it's not ok to force your noise on others in the restaurant, it shouldn't be any different out on the course.

when I play music I try to find something that everyone in my group is going to like...which isn't always easy.

Yeah, especially when you add in all the groups you'll pass and play adjacent to who also have to hear it.

I appreciate your honesty!
I do usually push pause when I am in an area with other groups...or if I am waiting for a group in front of me to tee off because they are slow AF...

but when I am out on the fairway (or in the trees), I don't mind having music playing.

If someone on the next hole over can hear your music, its too loud.

But I am definitely pro music on the course.

couple of the guys I play with go ballistic at any small "distraction" from their games... coming off years of playing "gotcha" golf I guess I'm inured to common noises... if anything, their touchiness is kind of distracting to my game.

Fuck them is the only truthful position to take.
