Am I getting this correct. Showing up on New Year's Day to play an undefeated UCF wasn't important to Auburn. Playing in a scrub bowl against Purdue was a game they really want to make a statement in. Makes perfect sense....

Completely different scenarios.

Last year Auburn was riding high, beat their two biggest rivals in a span of 3 weeks, each were ranked number 1 at the time, they were playoff bound, and then one of the rivals they beat earlier gave them a dose of reality in the SEC Championship game. They went from playoff bound to playing in the Peach Bowl against a mid major playing in their Super Bowl.

Roll your eyes all you want, but it happens quite often when teams have their natty hopes ripped away the final game before the bowls.
