I'd be thrilled with that. Who goes the other way though? Could it get done for one of our D prospects?

Would Kelly get it done? I don' think an overhaul is needed just now; Alfie is looking slow but I expect him to get better as he gets back to 100%. It's really just some glaring errors in our end that are killing the Sens. 95% of the time they're playing pretty well. The other 5% is SO bad, however, that it ends up costing them wins.

I'd trade a 2nd rounder (it's a weak draft this year) and Lee for Zanon. I don't know if they'd take that deal or not but one can hope.

Kelly is a bit redundant, however, he is very good at what he does. Plus, I don't think Winchester or Smith are quite ready to take his spot either.

I don't really agree on your last point. I think they've played very poorly except for brief periods of time. The only game they played half decent in was against Carolina but they still almost lost to a team that was jet-legged.

To me, the biggest issue is the turnovers. How many times has this team turned the puck over in the own zone? I know it's a lot and you can't win games doing that. I also think the forwards should take some of the blame too because they need to come back and make it easier on the defense. Something they haven't really been doing.

And one more thing. Kovalev was brought in to provide secondary scoring and he's not doing it. He has to at least chip in every once in a while. Not go 20+ games with one a point or whatever. That's not good enough for 5 million dollars. If he keeps it up, he could find himself on waivers come Christmas time...

Murray better be ready to deal... with a real estate agent. Big mouth strikes again.

Besides Alfie, Spezza and Phillips he is the only thing that hasn't changed since the team was good and respected.

They just can't trade Alfie now. A) He deserves the respect to finish out the string where he wants to be, and B) Honestly, who wants him?

You can't deal Spezza because you flush another 4 mil and he has final say anyway. You get NO value there. None. Murray put his own nuts in the vise and gave the rest of the league the lever to twist. The dumbest move in a history of really bad ones.

(Attention Jason Spezza; Columbus is a beautiful city and your wingers would be The Unholy Beast and Antoine Vermette. Columbus has a few defensive D men.)

It will be Phillips and likely Lee to get traded. Phillips will just be the last remnant of that Epic D Corps that hurts to even think about now. Set him free. (Chris, Columbus is nice, just ask Commo). As for Lee... The kid never got a fair shake. Set him free too. I wouldn't mind seeing him paired with Phaneuf. Seriously.

NO effort to keep Volchenkov, and what happens? Your D has no toughness and shots increase by 20%. You could see that shit coming from the International Space Station.

There are probably some teams that would want him. He still can put up 60 points and is still pretty good in other areas. What's holding him back a bit is that he doesn't skate as well as he used to. That could be because of the offseason surgery too though.

I agree here and I think that's the reason Spezza hasn't been moved yet. Because you're not going to get equal value back and the organization has so much invested in the guy anyway. He's probably not going anywhere anytime soon.

It's too early to say but if they miss the playoffs this year, then I actually do expect things to change dramatically. This is Murray's last year under contract, Clouston's last year, Kovalev will be gone, Phillips could be gone and Alfie could retire. I forsee major changes in every area if the season doesn't turn around.

As for Phillips specifically. He hasn't been great either but he's not the problem right now. I expect he'll turn it around in time but right now he's playing like the rest of the team is.

I agree with this too. If he didn't plan on resigning Volchenkov then why was he so quick to let Sutton go too? Clearly that's a major issue now. Who did he expect to provide toughness on the backend? Carkner? Yeah but he can't do it all alone. At the end of the year last year, teams feared coming into the zone because they might get drilled and that's just not there anymore.
