How big of a deal could Murray be trying to make & how many? Could Spezza be on the block?

I don't think it would be that big of a trade. It will probably be something relatively minor.

I really hope Havlat can be had though because that's the biggest problem I belive. There is only one true first line player on the team anymore with Alfie losing a step. I doubt Minny would trade him though.

I'd try to keep Backlund. Give them Jokinen instead.

You must be Jokinen :L

I'd love to keep Backlund, but in all honesty, will he ever be as good as Jason Spezza? Spezza has been a whipping boy in Ottawa for a long time, but he puts up really good numbers.

I cant see anyone paying big for Spezza and his Salary. Man that is massive

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Havlat was traded. He had a very disappointing season last year & he's signed long term for big $$.

Speaking of massive contracts, did you see my latest post on the Canucks board? :D

The Flames have been shutout in regulation time in 3 of 5 games this season, they need some offensive help.

Edit: Lest we forget, Spezza received his $4 million bonus in July (just like Heater did the year before, can Melnyk absorb that kind of loss two years in a row?)

that is why I dont think he will get much for Spezza can other teams? maybe teams like minny or islanders etc whose cap hits are lower. I can see those guys trading to sell tickets. doesnt Spezza have a NTC?

Yeah, Spezza has a NTC (I believe it kicked in July 1st, thus all the speculation that he would be moved prior to that date (as well as that $4 million bonus payment). I wonder if "Giggles" would waive it to come to Calgary.

Im not sure he would want another Canadian City. but who knows. he would be a good fit there with Iggy on the Wing.

No, Spezza needs to stay in Ottawa. At this point he's the only guy on the team who deserves to be on the first line. He just needs somebody who can actually score to play with him.

Alfie isn't the same player now. He's definitely lost a step and Michalek is too streaky to be a first liner.

He needs somebody like Heatley on his line again. That's why it would be nice to get Havlat back.

Kelly, while a good player, could be replaced with Zack Smith or Winchester. See who needs a defensive centre.

Other people could be on the move but I don't see the team giving up any of Spezza, Alfie, Michalek or Gonchar.

Karlsson is just about untouchable right now.

Could Phillips be on the move? He's in the last year before becoming UFA this summer. The problem is that he's the kind of player we need coming in. Unless there was another shutdown type D-man coming back I just don't see it.

There aren't a lot of trade options available this early in the season.

This team needs another defensive minded defenseman who can get either Lee or Campoli off the ice, then go from there.

I couldn't agree more. Those 2 have been absolutely dreadful and I think it's the kind of thing that's contagious.

If we're looking at Minnesota then Zanon might be a good option.

I'd be thrilled with that. Who goes the other way though? Could it get done for one of our D prospects?

Would Kelly get it done? I don' think an overhaul is needed just now; Alfie is looking slow but I expect him to get better as he gets back to 100%. It's really just some glaring errors in our end that are killing the Sens. 95% of the time they're playing pretty well. The other 5% is SO bad, however, that it ends up costing them wins.
