My condolences and prayers to the family - I know this is off topic, but I felt that Muhammad deserved a little recognition.

His wit and marketing strategies were unmatched at the time. A true genius and a poet, he could truly float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. He could accomplish anything he set his mind to. RIP to the greatest of all time.

Agree 100%.
I remember the days when heavyweight championship fights were free, on Saturday afternoons,on Wide World Of Sports.
Always looked forward to watching him.
Ali was/is a global icon who will never be forgot.

My favorite athlete of all time. He was more than a great boxer. He stood by his beliefs, even when they cost him his living and 3 years of his prime. Whether folks agreed with him or not (and many hated him for them), one has to admire the courage that it took for him to not back down.

R.I.P Champ!!

It is interesting. With all the focus on the NFL and the effects of repeated head trauma, I have not really heard anybody talk about Ali (at least until now). He was obviously very limited for the last 20+ years because of the toll that his sport took on him. He was a living example of what head Trauma could do to a person long before anybody was talking about it.

I remember Howard Cossell well over 25 or more years ago telling others in a news conference not to be asking him about boxing because in his opinion, boxing was violent and was not a sport. I never have understood what others say in seeing some one getting pounded in the head over and over, but Ali was well respected and I have never seen any one like him

I don't think that any sportsman meant more than Ali, not even Jordan, because Ali was more than just a sportsman.

He really was the greatest but had significant health issues the past few years. Glad the suffering is over. RIP champ.

I'm sure many people would trade in their current life to play NFL/Boxing, etc.... earn millions, live 20 or so years with complete luxury and banging hot chicks.

I don't feel bad for these guys at all. They know the risks.. they sign up for it. Football will always be around. The minute world class athletes start quitting, the faster slowpokes with little to no athletic talent like me can sign up.

It's called compassion -That's why Jesus died on the cross for us. He felt sorry for us even though we didn't deserve it. That being said, I will now add that is the reason Ali tried to keep all of his kids out of boxing - He recognized the harm he did to his body

My family & I got to meet Muhammed in the last '90s. We were the only ones in the restaurant. My wife saw him ... we weren't going to approach/bug him ... but he walked over to our table and spent a few minutes. It was really cool because it was easy to see that he liked doing it. He kissed my daughter ... faked punched my son ... and we got a great picture with him. He probably spent 5 minutes with us. (until his wife returned) He never said a word.

Later other people started showing up and approached him asking for an autograph. He did his best -- but it was clear that he couldn't really write well.

It was surreal.
