Dont know if any of you saw this but I thought it was pretty interesting. I was pleasantly surprised not to find Brian Leetch at the top considering how rag$ centric MSG is. Here's the list:

10. Brian Rafalski NJD
9. Ken Morrow NYI
8. Brad Park NYR (actually thought he'd be higher)
7. Ron Greshner NYR
6. Ken Daneyko NJD
5. Harry Howell NYR
4. Scott Niedermeyer NJD
3. Brian Leetch NYR
2. Scott Stevens NJD
1. Dennis Potvin NYI

It was a good program, when they re-run it you should tune in lots of excellent highlight clips including some honorable mention like Bruce Driver that didnt make their top ten.

I expect that from a Rangerscentric network, but Nieds was infinitely better than Brian Leetch. As far as I know, Nieds, Stevens and Potvin should be the top 3 by a mile.

I agree, I was frankly surpised they didnt have Leetch at #1.

yeah neids should be #3. heck if he stayed in nj i would say #2. his skill set was way above stevens. didnt get to see his leadership ability though.

put leetch on njd and his #s would be cut in half

Leetch was great offensively, but he was a forward playing the defensive position.
Defensively, he was lacking and Nieds should be ahead of him.

Nieds or Stevens

Such a tough question to answer. In today's NHL it would have to be Nieds, since Stevens would be suspended for half the season.

But as good as Nieds was, Stevens was the fucking boss. When he was on the ice he was the Alpha Male, regardless of who was on the ice for either team. That's something stats and skills can't compare to.

good question Cup, and there is no wrong answer.
NM is right. Today's NHL, with Steven's passing out concussions even with clean hits, he would be suspended most of the time.

Nieds talent and skating wins. Stevens leadership, hitting, and the fear he caused to opposing teams' forwards wins. You know players were always watching out for him when he was on the ice.

I have no idea. I will say Stevens back in the day, and Nieds in todays NHL.

Stevens was a much better offensive player in his early years. He also had a very short fuse. He became a great defensive d-man and an even better leader. Nieds was great as well. However, Stevens should be listed ahead of Nieds. Interesting list.

yeah there is no right or wrong answer. they made a perfect 1-2 combo. the rough hard leader then the soft spoken smooth skater. nieds was a heck of a captain too he won with it in anahiem.

hopefully larrson and merrill are 2.0

I find it interesting Daneyko said Nieds was his favorite teammate ever. Number 2 for him... Scott Gomez.

The best was when we had 4 of these top 10 at once in our top 2 D pairing. Raflski with Stevens and Nieds with Dano....ah those were the days!
