One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - (Chief and the gum)

The Professionals - (Great Western)

Ronin - (Bobby De Niro)

The Treasure of Sierra Madre - (Bogart)

Sometimes I just watch the end of the one with Daniel Day Lewis. Gawd I love that. I am past it now, but I have dreamed of being in a conflict like that. Suppose I am a little crazy.

The last 45 minutes of that movie is just fantastic.

My favorite scene. DDL nailed this role. And Magua was such a great villain!

Young Frankenstein is one of the funniest flicks ever. That blind monk routine just kills me. A Clockwork Orange was iconic when it was released. Never had been anything like it before.

I have failed to mention a personal favorite. The Lion in Winter. The one with O'Toole and Hepburn. Man that were was some incredible acting in that one. And it was a sequel to Thomas A Becket. Another all time great. Funny those two movies never achieved the lasting fascination all of the great Bogart movies have.

Most of my list has been covered:

Movies that I put the remote down and don't even bother looking through the guide any further:

Shawshank
The Bourne Trilogy
Patton
Saving Private Ryan
Braveheart
300
Troy

There are a lot of great movies listed in this thread but I own a bunch of them, so I can watch them anytime and won't necessarily stop and watch them.
That's a good call....Dig Brad Pit in that role....I'll add JFK to my (extremely long) list.

re: Troy, etc

agree in principle, but no...I'd probably keep surfing. Too many great 'violence' scenes have been cut from movies like TROY & GLADIATOR. gawd, I hate that PC bullshit! (especially when you can go to the Sci-Fi channel right now and watch cannibal cretins -WRONG TURN- butcher living victims in full gory detail...wtf's the matter with this picture?)

Interesting to note that nobody's listed TITANIC here... (I'm in contention to be the last person in the world not to have seen that pos pretender to the classic A NIGHT TO REMEMBER - another movie I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned.)

AmIBlue noted, much earlier, that PLATOON and FULLMJACKET formed a genre to themselves - another post I agree with...but would add APOCALYPSE , HAMBURGER HILL  and GOOD MORNING VIETNAM to the class.

We've got so many CDs of the great movies mentioned here that, unless the best scene of the PC TV version's playing, I'll usually surf on.

Have you seen Double Indemnity? I'm always dying to buy it, but - oh snap! Just looked it up on Amazon and it's now $8.90 instead of $25 like it usually is...maybe I should finally get it :plotting:

Just to highlight the movie 'The Fighter': I dont know how many boxing fans are here, but I'd make the case the Mickey Ward vs Arturo Gatti trilogy was the best of all time. Look it up on youtube if you haven't seen it. It is the best boxing gets and will make you say fuck Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And the movie, even with it being based in Mass., reminds me of growing up white trash in Bama.
