Anyone know what happened here? the one good thing about CBS was that there were quite a few folks from Iowa City on and knew some folks on the team so they could get this info out right away...hope it's nothing really serious.

From what I've been seeing online, his appendix burst. He should be fine by the start of the year.

That would be my guess too. Any time it's a "sudden" surgery and not football injury related, that's the first thing that comes to mind.

Sudden surgery for Morris to me would mean that he had to have the knife pulled out of his back thrust in by HOOPS...who thinks he is the worst Iowa LB ever.

What does an appendix weight? At a minimum he should be fractionally faster this year w/out having to lug that damn organ around!

gengljer,

Morris is a product of the Iowa system that KF runs.

Morris has gaudy tackle totals, but then again, the defense is on the field for a high number of plays. Morris does have 2.5 sacks in his three years of action. Additionally, Morris has 15 tackles for a loss 9 passes defended and 2 interceptions as a starter.

The unproductive D-Line has ensured that Morris can't make the tackle in the backfield. When the LBing corps is making tackles down field...that is bad news for the defense. And the KF system keeps the defense on the field more than the offense.

What would Morris look like IF he had a D-Line that was actually productive? Besides, how many games can be won with 2A Iowa high school talent? A product of the system...more than being the worst LB to ever play at Iowa. Give Morris a stud D-Line and watch him destroy RBs in the backfield!!!

Product of the system? Greenway was a walkon from po-dunk South Dakota and he was a product of the system. Angerer and Edds, wait, same system, same products of said same system.

Pointing out something for you. Offenses have changed drastically since Greenway was a product of the system. Read options, 4 and 5 wideouts....Morris is a DB playing LB more than he is a LB plugging running holes or shooting gaps.

Bend don't break defense and instead of defending the run 50 percent of the time, that run percentage is now 20 percent, except when facing Mich. State, and Wisconsin to a certain extent. Factor that in with the zero blitz package and Morris' numbers look totally different from Greenway.

Yes, Greenway had a better D-Line, but that was also against different offenses.

Morris would benefit GREATLY from a better D-Line!!!!! All LBs do. That is basic coaching.

Yes, basic coaching. Like "Coaching 101". The need to have a strong D-Line to set up the rest of the defensive game plan. With that, the rest of the defense can be unleashed on the opponent to great effect.

Actually, his numbers would be far, far better if the D-line continues to let RBs/QBs through the line of scrimmage. Wrong again.
