That's crazy, different times I guess. Just went and looked and he lead the league frequently but never over 100 is just wild
This will be the 103 season his total bases record has stood.

While striking out 81 times.

Some of his numbers are almost unbelievable.

He had such outlandish numbers in 1978, I thought he must have had 400 total bases but wasn't sure about the strikeouts
Yeah it's kind of a weird combination of stats. You have to be kind of a free swinger because if you get a lot of walks it takes away from chances to strike out or get total bases.

Rice led the AL in homers, hits and triples in 1978. That's a lot of bases right there

Yep, that will do it. That was a pretty damn good hitting outfield with Lynn and Evans.

The agony of 1978. Being a Red Sox fan when everyone I knew, family and friends, were Yankee fans.
Yeah, Bucky Bleeping Dent.... Not a great year for me either. The Phillies lost in the playoffs for the 3rd straight year. The Reds and Dodgers were just loaded back then.

Evans 67.2 WAR to Lynn’s 50.2 to Rice’s 47.7……
yeah, surprising that Evans wasn't the guy that eventually got to the hall. I guess those gold gloves don't mean as much in the outfield...

I see the flaw in your calculations…

You are under the false assumption that logic is applied to induction into the Hall.

If you went back to 1978 and told Sox fans that one and only one would make the Hall, I bet everyone would have said Fred Lynn.

Especially the Veteran's committee. No telling what's gonna happen. Whodathunk they'd suddenly decide they couldn't have a museum without Harold Baines.

As an NL fan if you took me back to 1978 two guys I would guess would probably make the Hall were Dave Parker and Steve Garvey. Not saying they deserve to but they were the guys getting the resume builders like All Star Games, World Series, MVP, pictures in Sports Illustrated, etc.
