The transfer portal has had lots of critics, but it might be the best thing to ever happen to CFB from a competitive and entertainment standpoint. Yesterday we watched multiple ranked teams go down to unranked opponents and even more had close games (Miami) that they barely eeked out a win in. I don't recall ever seeing a Saturday of football like that. That's more or less been the story of this season so far.

The reasons why seem evident. With the transfer portal top teams can no longer stockpile talent, top athletes no longer have to ride the bench and can transfer to some place they can play. Some thought this would mean the rich would get richer, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead kids who would ride the bench at an elite program can go to a good program & play immediately and a kid that would ride the bench at a good program can go to a G5 program and play immediately. The ultimate result being teams getting better overall and the talent level on the field being better overall.

- Dare we say from the average fan's perspective CFB has improved?

I agree that the transfer portal has been a good thing for CFB - it’s made it more competitive and has resulted in a better quality of games. College football is as exciting as ever this season.

For an average person who has no school sure, but the portal is horrific for the sport and alumni

Wasn't "parity" the favorite word from Pete Rozelle?

I don't like the big conferences. I enjoyed the smaller conferences where the teams all had to play each other (ala the Big 8 before the Southwest broke up and sent 4 teams to make the Big 8 the Big 12. Also, the regional flavor has been destroyed. How the heck does the teams from the PAC 12 fit in the Big 10 or ACC? Crazy stuff.

portal needs to be reigned in. it's way too out of control. it shouldn't be so easy to leave a team. Again, not saying the portal shouldn't exist, it just needs to be tightened up.

A guy I talk football with has suggested a 2 year minimum for kids when they commit to a school via a contract either with the school and/or the people paying them for their image. I could go for that.

Yea both sides of a contract should be honored. 2 year deals make sense.

In order to go 10-2, Indiana would have to beat at least one of Washington, Michigan or Ohio State. Which one do you think is Indiana's bet chance?
I for one could see them beating Washington or Michigan, Nebraska is a tough game too but I give them a shot. Ohio St is the only one I think is an extremely long shot for them to win.

There is more parity but at the end, it will be the usual teams in the final 4.

Scores this week from the Top 25 are pretty crazy.

#16 Utah 19 Arizona State 27
#9 Ole Miss 26 #13 LSU 29 OT
#1 Texas 34 #18 Oklahoma 3
#2 Ohio State 31 #3 Oregon 32
#4 Penn State 33 USC 30 OT
Mississippi State 31 #5 Georgia 41
South Carolina 25 #7 Alabama 27
Florida 17 #8 Tennessee 23 OT
#10 Clemson 49 Wake Forest 14
Stanford 7 #11 Notre Dame 49
#11 Iowa State 28 West Virginia 16
Arizona 19 #15 BYU 41
#17 Boise State 28 Hawaii 7
#18 Kansas State 31 Colorado 28
#21 Missouri 45 UMass 3
California 15 #22 Pittsburgh 17
Purdue 49 #23 Illinois 50 OT

4 OT games and a number of other close calls. Haven't been a fan of the 12 team playoff, but this could be a March Madness like 12 team tournament this year. Doesn't look like there are any dominant teams this year.

Alabama @ Tennessee and Georgia @ Texas next week. :suds:

Officiating is fucking up this season. Homers are getting some really ridiculous calls in their favor when playing highly ranked teams and those high ranked teams are taking it in the ass.

Oregon, Tennessee, USC got huge gifts. Only USC was unable to take advantage because there was no way in hell that the ref could disallow an INT.

You can expect the rankings to look something like this:
* = indicates that the team is undefeated.
1. Texas*
2. Oregon*
3. Penn St*
4. Georgia
5. Miami*
6. Ohio State
7. Alabama
8. Tennessee
9. Notre Dame
10. Iowa St*
11. BYU*
