Who do you think is more overrated and overpaid between Jeter and Pedroia?

It's ironic that Yankees and Red Sox fans go back and forth, but their heroes get the same overratedness and hero treatment.

I personally feel both of these guys aren't worth the salaries or hype they get.

Neither are/were/will be as overpaid or over-hyped as the 2011 Marlins.

While I think Jeter (was/is?) a very good player I can see why some say he is somewhat overrated as an all around player at times. But I don't get that with Pedoria, he's a legit all around second baseman that is consistent year after year.

Jeter's defense is/was overrated, but that's it. He totally made up for that with his offense (career .313/.382/.448, 117 OPS+) and baserunning (348 stolen bases, caught 95 times, +55 rbaser).

Pedroia's a 2nd baseman with a career line of .303/.371/.457 and 117 OPS+. He also has 116 stolen bases and he's been caught stealing 30 times. Pedroia's also considered to be an excellent defender whether by the eye test or by defensive metrics.

I don't think either one of them are overrated in respect to what they've brought to their teams...and honestly, aren't they ALL overpaid?

Jeter is overrated in the sense that his numbers don't really stand out, and yet he is treated as if he were one of those players. You know, players like prime Pujols, prime A-Rod, and Miguel Cabrera.

A-Rod hasn't brought to any of his teams one tenth of what Jeter has brought to the Yankees. C'mon man, don't put me in the position of having to defend Jeter. That said, any team would kill to have a guy like him on their team for his entire career. Like the commercial says, "Priceless".

I hate the Yankees with a passion, but you can't hate Jeter. The dude's fucking good, and he works his ass off. He deserves what he gets.

Jeters defense is definitely more over hyped.

Don't act like you don't know exactly what I meant. Jeter doesn't give you 45 HRS and 120-150 RBIs like prime A-Rod did. A-Rod could be playing for the Houston Astros, and those numbers would stand up. The same can't be said for Jeter. He'd give you a .315 batting average with 15 hrs, but that's about it.

The only players in their prime today who put up these types of numbers or at least close to it constantly are Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Braun.

How in the world is Pedroia overrated *or* overpaid? He's one of the 2-3 best second basemen in all of baseball, and the contract he just signed is well under market value.

Jeter is no longer rated that highly. He is what he is. And what he paid is also a function of his value to the franchise. Jeter still puts butts in seats and sells merch.

So the answer is: the question is stupid.

How much revenue does baseball bring in? They're all underpaid if anything. Too much money going to owners who provide no value and have no risk.

2003 called. They want their analysis back. Jeter simply doesn't have that reputation anymore. Now, he's one of the old guard on the 17th green. People just respect him for his career contributions at this point.
