it's funny because Mookie's already had a much better career.

Didi: 14.1 WAR
Mookie: 22.7 WAR

And that's with Didi having 131 more games and being almost 3 years older.

In fairness, Gregorius' game has changed quite a bit over the last couple of years. He was like a defensive guy, now he's got some pop.

They're both fags, though.

Yeah, I was pretty wrong about Didi's bat. He has shown more home run power and it's not entirely because of Yankee Stadium either. My biggest issue was his inability to draw walks, but he's seen a jump from 4.4% to 14% (!). Of course, Odubel Herrera had a similar jump from 2015 to April 2016 (he went from 5.2% in 2015 to 22.1% (!!!!!) in April 2016). After walking 22 times that month, Odubel drew only 40 walks for the remainder of the season and went back to a sub-6% walk rate in 2017. So while it's encouraging to see him walking a lot more, it remains to be seen if that approach is sustainable.

A few years ago, I got into a debate with @DirtDirtDirt about Indians vs Yankees lineup and I insisted that Gregorius was an offensive blackhole. At the time, he had an OPS+ of about 90. He's been at about 110 since that discussion, and to add insult to injury, Gregorius hit two dingers off Kluber in game 5 of the ALDS last year, effectively ending the Indians' season.

Then I had to wear this for a week:

Fuck Didi Gregorius and fuck Dirt. Oh, and preemptively, fuck Greg Bird. Twice.

Not totally sure I'd call a 90 OPS+ a blackhole... or at least not compared to the shortstop position. There's been only two seasons since 1990 where the league wRC+ at SS was 90 or higher (2007 and 2016). It's currently 97 this year, but it's only May 3.

I'm actually a bit surprised by that, I thought the average wRC+ for SS would be higher especially during the Nomar/A-Rod/Jeter/Tejada years.

You should have seen the endless parade of Chris Sale On Pace To Strike Out A Billion People, and Give up 3 ERs All Year, and Be Better Than Pedro Martinez threads we got from Rock last year.

Well, at least until Sale shit the pitching rubber and looked more like Pedro Astacio.

no kidding. i remember one clown predicted the indians wouldn't lose another game in August.

"got some pop". I think the acronym is PEDS.

Mookie Betts weighs 75 pounds and hits 3HR's a day

David Ortiz was one of the biggest PED abusers of our time, but he was more "likeable" than a guy like Arod or Bonds

Betts is absolutely better than Didi, Mookie is one of the rare ones that is in the most elite of classes

Boegarts absolutely is not better than Didi, and Im good with that

All this discussion about which player not as good Lindor more is fascinating.

Oh don't get me wrong, Bogaerts isn't in the same class as Correa/Seager/Lindor. But he's absolutely been a top 5 SS over the last 3-4 years and to say "there's no way he's been better than Didi" is laughable, but that's just Dirt being a homer per usual.

Third year in a row the Yankees have had players without much history in power all of a sudden developing power. If Didi's recent power run doesn't convince you something if fishy, then I guess you've chosen to turn the blind eye. I don't blame ya - they're not getting caught so who cares. But it sure does look pretty odd.

Didi hit 25 HR's last year after missing the first month. This power isn't coming out of nowhere.

He will probably end up with between 30-35 HR's which is exactly where he would have ended up at without injury last year.

How many did he hit the year before that? Or the year before that? You're not exactly helping the "Didi is clean" case.

Unreal that a player goes to a hitters park and his home run total increases.....that never happens.

Unreal that a player who only played 3 MLB seasons and never played close to a full season in those years actually gets better......that never happens
