After missing the Playoffs with a boatload of good but not great veterans, the Jazz clearly need to rebuild. Out of Utah's threesome of talented free agents (Jefferson, Millsap, and Williams), Williams is the one I believe has the best chance of re-signing with the team. I think he would make an excellent veteran voice on a young team.

People assume it's because of my LeBron hatred, but I truly believe Mo is a better player right now than he ever was in Cleveland. Once thing's for sure - He's far and away a more mature player now, whereas in Cleveland he played too much like it was his right to play for such a great team. He also averaged more assists in 2012-13 in Utah than he ever had playing alongside LeBron in Cleveland. His absence for half the season due to thumb surgery was likely the biggest factor in the Jazz failing to reach the Playoffs.

In addition to Utah, I also see him being a fit in Detroit, who desperately needs a PG. Though the Pistons might be better served holding out to see if Brandon Jennings becomes unrestricted next year. I personally hope Mo Williams doesn't take a cheap deal to latch on with a contender. I think he has more to offer than that. Put him on the Heat and he instantly becomes Mario Chalmers.

I think his best bet would be to re-sign with Utah to help mentor young bigs Kanter and Favors as well as guard Trey Burke.

Thoughts?

He said a couple days ago that he's not going to re-sign unless he was going to be the starter. With Trey Burke coming in, Mo wants assured that he will be the starter.

Not sure how he expects to get that in writing?? They could tell him, "yes you're still the starter" and find himself coming off the bench after 5 games in.

2 things:

1, the Jazz are reportedly highly interested in re-signing Millsap. Jefferson is more or less gone for sure. This makes sense since Millsap and Favors will complement each other well and they still have Kanter off the bench.

2, There is reason to believe that the Jazz may sign Williams with the intention of bringing Burke off the bench and easing him in. Deron Williams did not start right away, although he did start by the end of his rookie season. This was like 400 years ago, but it took Stockton 3 or 4 years to work his way into a starting role. The Jazz have a history of taking things slowly with talented young PGs.

Also, Detroit is reportedly interested in re-signing Calderon or in trading for Rondo. Mo Williams would be a fall back for them.

While that may be true, the Jazz did trade up in the draft to get Burke. Plus Mo's durability is in question. After playing 81 games for the Cavaliers in 2009, Williams has appeared in just 69, 58, 52, and 46 games respectively in each of the following seasons.

That's not a good bargaining point for Mo...
