I'm honestly not trying to seem like a prick towards Lions fans when I say this, but the only reason I can come up with for why they think they should go all-out to beat San Fran at any cost is because they aren't very used to this type of regular season success. If the roles were reversed with the Vikings being the ones to play a now meaingless game before the Vikes/Lions showdown finale, I'd be pissed if the Vikings played the starters for more than the first quarter or perhaps half of the meaningless games. There is merit to not resting them for the full game to prevent rust, but there is no reason they should treat it like a can't-lose game.
He explained it already. They need to win tomorrow so in case of a tie next week they still get the 1 seed. They were just being faggots about it instead of just saying that.

God help you if someone gets hurt tomorrow.
Someone could get hurt in practice. Should they not practice because this weeks game doesn’t mean anything? Also, what happen if the Lions lose this week and then they tie the Vikings next week?

Yes, play balls to the wall in case of a tied game.

The most recent tied game occurred in 2022, and there have been 4 total tied games throughout the 2020's thus far. Yeah, let's worry about a tie, that matters way more than risking injuries to the starters in the otherwise meaingless game leading up to it! lmao

Do you honestly believe that they're hitting each other as hard in practices as they do live games, thus making both equal in terms of likelihood of injuries? You think Goff is getting slapped around by Lions defenders in practices the same way defenses of opposing teams would?

How many guys get hurt in the off-season before games even begin? Just lost Chuba Hubbard in my fantasy finals to what from I gather based on the little info out there was an injury in practice. Happens all the time. i see you skipped my question about a tie.

also something to be said about not letting up and killing your momentum before a huge game

The starters would be fine for the next the game if they played a quarter or two of the San Fran game in terms of rust.

Banking on the possibility of a tie happening between the Vikings and Lions objectively makes far less sense from a stastical standpoint than worrying about injuries to starters happening in a game beforehand that would be meaningless in any event other than a tied final between the Vikings and Lions. I already laid out how incredibly unlikely a tie is with current OT rules that have been in place in recent years.

Lions fans would suddenly have a very different take on this even if they beat San Fran and Goff went down with a knee injury in the 3rd or 4th quarter of that game.

This thread turned out to be pretty funny. Thanks dudes.

Also @msgkings322
Post 2 I told you they’d play to win.

You could’ve just thanked me for setting you straight. But here we are.
Aren’t you pretty notorious for trolling people in this exact fashion around here? I’m not saying you shouldn’t…just thinking out loud.

Yes we’ve been over that. Should the Chiefs not rest anyone next week?

Still waiting for anyone in this thread to apply this logic to the Chiefs next week.

Andy Reid is notorious for sleeping through team meetings, The likelihood of the Chiefs sitting anyone is about zero.
Andy can't help himself.

BTW, his "bundlerooosky " play has yet to be tried

I'm telling ya man, this whole thing comes down much more to Lions fans not being used to this type of success with their franchise than it does with logic or reason.

Let's say they go all out for the San Fran game and Goff tore his ACL during the 3rd quarter. Can you imagine how upset Lions fans would be even if they still won the game, coming here to say what a bunch of morons they now thought the Lions coaching staff were for letting it happen just in case their finale against the Vikings miraculously ends in a tie?

For anyone not paying attention, or don't want to traverse this thread minefield...

Lions clinch #1 seed with:

1. Loss or tie to SF and win against MIN
2. Win against SF and win or tie against MIN

The SF game is not meaningless, but it's next to meaningless.
