Ryan Braun refused to answer MLB's questions about Biogenesis clinic, sources say - ESPN

Ryan Braun, who has repeatedly denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs, refused to answer questions during a recent meeting with Major League Baseball about his connection to Tony Bosch and the Biogenesis clinic in Miami, sources told "Outside the Lines."

The meeting took place June 29, a source said, and is one of several that MLB has conducted with players connected to the clinic. A source said Alex Rodriguez has not been interviewed, but a meeting is expected to take place within the week.

Commissioner Bud Selig's office is expected to suspend Braun and Rodriguez, along with as many as 20 players sometime after next week's All-Star break, several sources told "Outside the Lines." As OTL reported, MLB started building cases against the players last month after Bosch agreed to cooperate with investigators.

The question is how long the suspensions will be.

Sources said the commissioner's office was considering 100-game bans for Braun and Rodriguez, the punishment for a second offense, even though neither player was previously suspended for violating MLB's drug policy.

The argument, one source said, would be that they -- and possibly other players -- committed multiple offenses by receiving performance-enhancing drugs from Bosch and by lying about it.

Bosch's attorneys have met repeatedly with MLB officials over the past month, turning over numerous documents to substantiate his connection to the players named in company documents, sources have said.

While sources would not detail what Bosch has turned over, he was expected to provide phone, text, email and other records.

Representatives of Braun could not be reached Tuesday by ESPN.

Looong appeal process coming up, considering MLB is obviously trying to ramp up Braun's suspension due to them already being made to look foolish and A-Rod's admittance of using BEFORE baseball even had a drug policy counting as a strike

you are probably right but if Cruz goes this team is offensively dead without trading for a bat. maybe this is why the Rangers are scouting Ruggilo (sp)

Ha if thats the backup plan for Cruz, then why bother??? Just fold up shop and save the prospects

I could care less about the players that juiced before steroids were illegal in baseball. They weren't breaking any rules and the people it matters to know they cheated. However, with Braun, A-Roid, Cruz and many others it's different. They are breaking the rules and they should be banned for life. I won't get into the Pete Rose thing, but what they are doing/did is at least on the same plane of betting on baseball and possibly screwing over your team.

I feel bad for the teams that have to deal with this, since it was shaping up to be an exciting season of baseball and now the steroid circus is about to get even crazier...

You wouldn't need two bats, you would just go after a bat as planned (Rios) and pitcher (Garza) and platoon the DH spot (because you have Profar and EB), then plug Baker into the RF spot (assuming he has a plus arm since he plays the hot corner).

Do nothing, get the young guys some experience and make a move next year, thats too much to do in one trade cycle without destroying the farm system

probably the best solution but I have spent so many seasons watching this team fail to produce that i'd hate to see them tank it.

I'd say this year (if Cruz is suspended), would be one of extenuating circumstances and not a tank job,

And if you strip down the farm system, then you're looking at far more seasons of failure in the future then just losing this season

Yea thats a good point, I just think we are assuming that Rios and Garza will cost all of our high to mid level prospects. We have accumulated assets in positions of strength to be able to trade them for a need(s). Like I said above we wouldn't need two bats. Either way, I wouldn't be mad at either route.

What about the hole we already have in the OF that we're trying to fill in addition to finding a pitcher for the rotation AND replacing Cruz, I think you're being pretty ambitious there

To do all that would do a pretty good job of gutting the farm system

No, it's not just one. We already need an OF bat as it is. Losing Cruz would mean we need two plus a pitcher.
