Evidently the Twins are for sell for 1.7 billion. So I’m wondering exactly what it would take for M’s ownership to sell the majority stake of the team

Its alright to disagree, and we're going to disagree on this one... because it is the norm, we need to be doing it, or we are never going to compete (unless and until they implement a Salary Cap & Salary Floor... which, if the stupid contracts that we are now seeing don't lead to that, nothing ever will).

Vlad wouldn't be at the top of my list to throw that money at, but the players that I would (Really, the only players I would put over him, based on age & talent are Shohei [who is 30], Bobby Witt Jr. [24, but only has 1 elite season...], Aaron Judge [this comes with a bit of a worry, as he's 32, not 25], Soto [26... probably the best direct comparison, other than maybe Yordan], Yordan [27], Mookie [but he's also 32, and athleticism is a HUGE part of his game] & probably Gunnar Henderson [23]), aren't available.
Bobby Witt Jr would be my first choice anytime. His overall game is unbelievable. Love watching that guy play. Gunnar would be my 2nd choice for a big contract. Another guy that plays the right way.

But I agree a cap is needed. I doubt it will happen in my lifetime, but it would be the best thing for the sport. A cap with a ceiling and a floor. I see MLBPA is going after the non-spending teams as they should. I will always say sports are the fans game and owners are just the managers of it. The cities support it, and owners owe everything to them and they have they have the duty to make them competitive.

Then I’ll reply back to this one. Wonder if this is where ARod’s group tries to go.

Though it does seem like the Twins should be one the least valuable franchises in the sport now that the A’s are out of Oakland

Isn't Arods group buying the Timberwolves?

Did they? I thought that deal got messed up, which is why I brought that group up of buying into the M’s. I don’t pay attention to basketball, it was just on the radio one day where they were talking about the Sonics.

Well yeah Ichiro didn’t because no players were getting it. The Mariners made bank off of Ichiro though. And I still don’t get how the Mariners went from the team where most Japanese players wanted to come to, to not even getting a meeting.
I'm not sure I believe the organization when they say they couldn't get a meeting set up. I personally think they never tried too.

Valued at 2.2 billion but market wise could be had for a shade over a billion.

I know Arods group won the arbitration on it. Where it went from there, no clue. I stopped following it after that.

This isn’t an intentional dig at Minnesota but that just seems like I’d rather put money towards an expansion team than buy them. Won’t pretend to know anything about it but it just seems that franchise has something wrong with it. They went from contraction, to for some dumb reason having an open air stadium to the owner having a crap load of debt. Just contraction alone would scare me off because MLB had Oakland and the two Florida teams that have proven since their inception MLB doesn’t work in that state

I like the expansion thought but not sure when that'll happen. You could be on a waiting list for years so it seems easier to submit a bid for a team. Whatever is wrong with the twins I would assume the new owner will do sweeping changes and a few could stay on.

I think Manfred has stated once Oakland and Tampa got their stadiums figured out there will be expansion. It’s one thing owners can dangle in front of the MLBPA if owners are serious about a salary cap. Bringing the lower payroll teams up plus 2 new expansion teams, that’s probably close to a billion dollars assuming the floor is around 180

I never understood that trade.
None of the trades at that time made sense. Even the Haniger/Segura trade which IMO was the only decent one he made, it made no sense trading the top pitching prospect in the sport with a high upside SS (didn’t think he’d turn into a MVP player). Segura was good but not worth that package alone let alone Haniger. Ended up netting JP but who would rather have JP than Marte, heck Walker never lived up to his hype but he’s been better than Marco was

The Segura trade was just another case where an M's GM got impatient with a top prospect. Adam Jones then Marte. I can't say it was a bad trade in the beginning, but it sure as heck ended up being one.

Final Trade:

Katel Marte
Taijuan Walker
Juan Nicasio
James Pazos
Carlos Santana
Isaiah Campbell
Edwin Encarnacion
Robbie Ray
Anthony DeSclafani
Darren Bowen
Gabriel Gonzalez
Justin Topa

For

Mitch Haniger
Juan Segura
Zac Curtis
JP Crawford
Luis Arias
Juan Then
Jorge Polanco

I think that is it.
