Rixey was definitely over-rated... But he is facing David Price in the comparison... David Price had some good years, but he is far from a HOFer... Eppa Rixey is a HOF, and deservedly so...

Why? I don't see it that way. He led the league in wins once. He was vastly overrated and should NOT be in the HOF imo

55.4 career WAR / 33.7 7yr-peak WAR / 44.5 JAWS
Average HOF P (out of 63):
73.4 career WAR / 50.1 7yr-peak WAR / 61.8 JAWS

and absolutely Maddux is better than Matthewson... I would say that that is almost NOT close...

As much as I love Maddux gonna have to disagree with you there. I think it is pretty close though either way you want to tilt the argument. There is NO WAY Maddux is MUCH better than Mathewson...unless you just hate short players. Still...he was 6'1". He was a giant in those days

and why do you give the edge to Matthewson, can it be because of the ERA difference?? if that is the main factor, then that is BS.... The era a player plays in matters, it inflates or deflates statistics...

Matthewson played in an era that all the best pitchers had ERAs of below 2

Maddux did not...

Still think peak Maddux was the most dominating pitcher I've ever seen. I was amazed at his control and pin point accuracy.

No it's bc he better in just about every important category except SO's and it's close. I don't look much at ERA with comparison to different era players. Other stats still say he was very dominant even against the same pitchers in his era. You also have to compare him to the competition and they were both dominant.

But it seems like you are saying Maddux is better ONLY bc of the era he played in...I don't agree with that.

From an accuracy perspective he was pretty dominating. Most accurate pitcher I have ever seen easily.

It's hard to say about Mathewson bc we never saw him, none of us, but he was just as dominating from the numbers perspective.

I mean we could use the same argument about a lot of 1900 pitchers vs 1980-1990 pitchers. Why isn't Roger better than Walter then? They all had low ERA's in his time too...

never said that... but maybe I should a little bit... Although, I do believe that the best of any era would be Studs in ANY era, I do believe the more recent they were studs the more likely they would be studs currently...

so yes, I do think a player who was great in the 90s is better than a player that was great in the early 1900s... as long as they have similar peaks... which Matthewson and Maddux had...

I mean if you said Pedro was WAY BETTER than Mathewson I would agree but as much as I love Maddux he just isn't. If you take Mathewson 7 best seasons and compare them to Maddux, Maddux would be close in the first 4-5 but then he starts to drop off.

The top 5 right-handed SP's for me:
1. Walter
2. Pedro
3. Roger
4. Mathewson
5. Maddux

Some have Mathewson higher and I have no problem flip flopping 2 and 3 but Maddux is not moving higher on my list as great as he is.

Gibson...I knew I forgot someone...he could also go in the 5 slot instead of Maddux. Mathewson isn't going out of my top 4.

He wasn't nearly as great as him. Somewhere in the top 10 I'm sure but not near Mathewson imo. I mean obviously you have him down there too...

The best I ever saw was Ubaldo Jimenez. way more control and accuracy than Maddux

Interesting enough...he was my favorite Indians pitcher of all-time. He led the league in losses and wild pitches in the same year. Amazing, just amazing

I have only hated an local athlete and gotten more crap for it than Jimenez.

You do not want to bad talk Donovan Mitchell in Utah.
