Gwynn, Puck, Teddy that's almost as good as a 1,2,3 as you could put out there.

Then you get to see Edgar, Barry, Albert, holy chit it can't get a whole lot better than that either.

The 2nd half of the batting orders are really good as well, slight edge 500.

Both benches again strong, I like that they both can put some speed and power out there if needed, slight edge smitty.

Rotations, I personally would take Seaver and Johnson over Gibson and Ryan after that their #3's are both underrated IMO. Newhouser was great but a couple of his prime years were when a lot of the best hitters were off fighting a war, still some impressive numbers though. I liked Gomez as a 5th starter and we all seen how good Madison Bumgarner is when it matters, great rotations edge smitty.

Two very strong pens, a mix of old and new for both teams, I cant really say either has the advantage as they are both so good.

By the smallest of margins I vote Smitty.

500. Pretty sure I'm cursed in the semifinals. Have lost at least three straight drafts in the semis lol. Can't complain if Smitty wins though his team is awesome. I think mine is just as good though.

I'll vote on this one in a bit. I had Smitty tied with me for first, Ritz, Nos and 500 tied for 3rd but just 1 point back. Wanna look at the head to heads, both squads are insane

The two lineups are well constructed, both teams have a nice mix of righty and lefty hitters. To me, 500's lineup is a little deeper in good hitters, though Smitty having Bonds and Pujoles in the middle of the lineup is insane. Still, the lineup goes to 500. The benches are both very good, but if there were one real impact player above everyone else, I'd say its Raines. The Rotations swing things back in Smitty's favor, because as great as Gibson and Ryan were, I like Seaver and Johnson better, and Feller is just a great #3. The bullpens, I like 3 of 500's guys alot, but Smitty's pen was maybe an arm deeper. I might give the pen a draw, or slight edge to 500, but it's not quite enough, the edge on the bench and solid edge in rotation gives Smitty a very close win

Smitty

I don't want to vote in this one. I will, just don't want to.

But before I do, there's a guy that needs to be talked about. And that guy is Hoyt Wilhelm. IMO, possibly the best relief pitcher in baseball history. Or, maybe, just the most impressive. Hoyt pitched in 1070 games during his 21 year career. Which might not seem like that much of an accomplishment until you realize the first time he took the mound...... he was 29. Leading the AL in ERA, tossing over 150 innings, winning 15 games, all without starting a single game that season.

He had 5 straight seasons, in his 40's, with a sub-2.00 ERA. His 40's! And would finally hang up his cleats at the age of 49. With a career ERA of 2.52 and what had to be the record for games finished and saves at the time. (If not, id love to know who owned those marks.)I always draft him, doesn't matter to me if it sways votes, but Id love to see him get nabbed before I get a chance next time. He's impressive as hell, IMO.

I ranked 500 #1, and I'll stick with it when voting. But man does it ever hurt me to do. I love the team I put together. That young, athletic, pre-Glenn Rice MiniMe version of Tony Gwynn at leadoff being as good of a reason as any to vote 500 here.
500's lineup is excellent. I mean, Robi Cano is hitting 9th fer cryin out loud. Even my ridiculous pitching staff thinks that's scary. (The power arms allowed me to focus less on defense than normal. A la Dave Dombrowski....)
But Id also like to note how much I like having Hack Wilson as a pinch hitter. Had the NL record for homers in a season for several generations. But still died penniless. Also think Victor Martinez is an asset. Especially as an offensive backup catcher. Not that he had much competition in this Mock....

Smitty had my #1 team. IMO- the most rounded team without a weakness... I like his statistical analysis.

His rotation wins this matchup.

Back in what 2006 I think it was Cano hit 9th on the Yankees and we still lost to your damn Tigers in the playoffs!

Only 8 teams is probably a factor. Not to take anything away from Smitty of course

Very true, I forgot about that. I really do your team is just as good as Smitty's though. His might be the best matchup so far.

I was at the clincher game of that series. In between a wedding and its reception lol. Good Times man, real good times.
