Josh Gibson became Major League Baseball’s career leader with a .372 batting average, surpassing Ty Cobb’s .367.

Gibson’s .974 slugging percentage in 1937 becomes the season record, and Barry Bonds’ .863 in 2001 dropped to fifth, also trailing Mules Suttles .877 in 1926, Gibson’s .871 in 1943 and Smith’s .870 in 1929. Hardly anyone playing in the ***** Leagues ever played with a "new" anything. Including baseballs.

We all know why they weren't allowed to play in the major leagues. Makes one wonder what could have been before Jackie?

How did they deal with all the missing box scores and, worse yet, the conflicting box scores?

I am a Database guy, and live by the rule of “garbage in, garbage out”. If the source data can’t be verified, it doesn’t go in.

How reliable is the source data for the records (that were already included) from the late 1800's/Early 1900's?

The article thst I read said they excluded a 4 HR game for Gibson because the data for that game didn't meet their standards, so they're not just accepting everything.

Agree, but my whiffle ball numbers were incredible, I hit homers like Ruth

This sport prolly doesn’t survive Gen Z.
Unfortunately it does seem to be trending that way, they don’t seem to market towards youth like in the past.

Looking at general MLB attendance numbers; they have been on the rise the past couple years but I’m sure that data is skewed with Covid and what not.

Like you alluded to, MLB is still clinging on to ours and our parent’s generation which obviously will only stretch so far.

Hope we’re wrong, a world without professional baseball would be a damn shame.

I essentially ignore pre-1900 stats. I hate to apply that same standard to this dataset.

Have to be careful.

Pretty soon they'll start feeling sorry for the drug users and still have a hate hard on for Pete Rose because he gambled.

if you get my drift???

The door has at least opened for the best of the ***** Leagues. The sad part is that they will never know that they've finally been recognized as being as good as they were.

The same problem exists for the white players in the all/near white league. Bottom line is NLB is a legitimate part of the history of baseball and was highly competitive. This was a perfectly fine move. Most fans at this point don't argue about Ruth really anyway. Let history age gracefully.
